Premium Electric Food Slicer Review

Premium Electric Food Slicer

This slicer slices from the bottom up. It pulls the meat right out of your hand when the meat goes past the center of the blade. you have to keep flipping over the meat to get it to cut cleanly off after slicing about 10-12 slices off of a bottom round roast. I had a portable krug slicer("old") that worked MUCH Better.

Rival 1042-wn Electric Food Slicer 6.5" Blade Review

This slicer does an ok job on meats and cheeses. However what I like most about it and what I use it for the most is bread. This is an excelent slicer for bread.
I would give one word of caution. The density of the food affects the thickness of the slice. In other words bread and meat cut on the same thickness will not have the same result.

Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer Review

Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to work in a deli and have used my fair share of commercial slicers. When I decided to buy one for home use, I knew that I didn't want one of the large, cumbersome slicers that I had used in the past, and that this would mean some tradeoffs in terms of power and quality. After taking a long look around, I finally decided on the CC-630, and I'm glad I did. I believe this unit offers an excellent compromise between commercial power and everyday practicality.
Please don't misunderstand... you don't want this slicer if you're looking to open a deli or restaurant. You can feel the slicer slow down as it cuts through denser foods (like meat and cheese) that the commercial slicers would just pass right through.
This little unit is best suited to the home user who wants to be able to cut enough cold cuts for a day's use - say packing lunches for the family. It's also great for slicing up roasts, BONELESS turkey/chicken, cheeses, and vegetables. Whatever you slice, slice only what you will consume immediately - or at least in the next day or so. That's the secret to those deli sandwiches... cut everything fresh for the best flavor.
Of surprise to me was how well this unit handles bread. It needs to be a fairly flexible bread (no cornbread/biscuits) as it has to bend slightly to accomodate the shape of the slicer. If you make your own bread, you can now slice it perfectly at nearly any thickness.
Just be sure to let anything that you make yourself cool completely before slicing. A warm roast or turkey breast just isn't rigid enough to hold itself together against the moving blade. If you're looking to use this for your thanksgiving dinner then you'd be better off investing in a good sharp carving set (not the serrated kind, but the kind you can resharpen). For thanksgiving leftovers, the slicer is ideal. Just don't do anything silly like trying to cut through bones as they can get caught in the moving blade... a serious safety hazard.
Why only 4 stars? Well, this unit would rate 5 in my opinion if not for two issues. First, a safety concern: the unit has seperate on/off and thickness controls. So what? Well, that means that you can turn the unit off and still leave the blade in an exposed cutting position (and at thinner settings, this is almost imperceptable visually). This can lead to serious injury should someone try to clean the unit thinking that the blade is safely shielded. Not a good idea if you have children around, or even if you don't. A simple solution is just to get in the habit of turning the thickness to zero immediately before or after turning the slicer off.
My other issue is that the manual says that no part of the slicer is dishwasher safe. This is extremely annoying as there are several removable non-electronic parts that are difficult to clean by hand. It seems absurd that the heavy duty plastic and stainless steel that these parts are made of would not hold up to a household dishwasher.
Overall, I find this to be an excellent slicer and highly recommend for home use. Much better than the cheaper underpowered models that are nearly impossible to clean properly.

Rival 1042W Electric Food Slicer, White Review

Rival 1042W Electric Food Slicer, White

I have thoroughly enjoyed having this slicer. I make bread and other methods of slicing have not been completely satisfactory. I want thinner slices to reduce calories and make the loaves last longer. This slicer does the trick. You can't just run the slicer easily back and forth with bread, you have to manually return the bread to the starting position, but that's no big deal. Sometimes the bottom crust catches between the blade and the housing and you have to pull it out gently without breaking the bread - but that isn't a big problem either. This is just so much better than other things I have tried, and without spending hundreds of dollars (or more) on a professional slicer. Well worth the money, wouldn't want to be without it.

Housed in durable plastic, the food slicer features a high-quality 6-1/2-inch stainless-steel blade and a thickness control dial that easily adjusts from wafer thin to extra thick. For added safety, the slicer provides a switch that locks the food carriage limiting access to the blade when the unit is not in use. The tray folds for convenient storage, and all slicing parts, including the tray, can be removed for thorough cleaning, but are not dishwasher-safe. A useful addition to any kitchen, the food slicer measures approximately 4 by 12 by 10 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

EdgeCraft 610 Chef's Choice Premium Electric Food Slicer Review

Bought the Chefs Choice 610 food slicer, then saw the Waring FS150 (similar but a Professional model with larger motor) for $30 less an hour later. Bought that one also with intent to look up reviews online and decide at home. After reading reviews (great reviews for Chefs Choice, awful reviews for the Waring) and instruction manuals on both (still can't believe you can't run the Waring for more than 10 minutes at a time and the poor design for cleanup) decided to keep the Chefs Choice. Used it to slice roast beef, swiss cheese and baked turkey breast. Worked extremely well on all and the unit is extremely easy to use. Cleanup took about 5 minutes total. Unit is a little larger than I would have liked, but all the food slicers have similar dimensions. Well worth the extra $30.

Wolfgang Puck Bread Maker Review

Wolfgang Puck Bread Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This bread maker is cheap, but that may be because it is cheaply made. It gets the job done, and the bread tastes great, but the machine's bread pan frequently pops out of the cradle during kneading. I don't feel comfortable leaving the machine alone during the first 40 minute kneading cycles because I need to constantly push the pan back into the cradle. When it pops out, it makes a terrible noise and would probably shake itself off of the table if I wasn't standing by to push it back in.
That being said, once the kneading cycles are over, you can leave the machine alone for a couple hours while the bread bakes and the delicious aroma fills your kitchen. The end product is very delicious, and even though its annoying, I still use it all the time.
Perhaps I just have a defective machine and this is not the case with every unit, but I just wanted to give a fair warning to those thinking of purchasing this product...
