Although the picture I'm looking at is that of a baker, the heading indicates this item is a bowl. Either way, I have them both and they are aboslutely the best. Cleanup for the baker is fantastic. The bowls are a little heavy but it's a good weight.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 3-1/2-Quart Oval French Ovens Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 3-1/2-Quart Oval French Ovens

As with all Le Creuset dutch ovens, this product is fantastic. Heavy, well-made, good for a lifetime (or more). I have a 6-quart size which is great for large recipes, but needed something smaller for 4-6 serving dishes. Also the perfect size for making the no knead bread recipe popularized by Mark Bittman -- makes a nicely shaped loaf that's a little thicker than what you'd get with a much larger pot.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 15-3/4-by-10-3/4-Inch Rectangular Baking Dish, Cobalt Blue Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 15-3/4-by-10-3/4-Inch Rectangular Baking Dish, Cobalt Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a classically trained chef, I have an extensive collection of kitchen items not always found in a typical home. I tend to think of kitchen products from a professional point of view, although I enjoy many items made for home use. Le Creuset is uncommon in professionally kitchens; however they manufacture quality and effective products.
Le Creuset's porcelain enameled cast iron cooking vessels are cast from molten iron formed in single use sand moulds. Covering cast iron with porcelain enamel not only looks good, but has multiple benefits. The enamel, being a solid coating, is one of the most hygienic surfaces to cook on, does not stain, absorb odors, retain flavors, and is easy to clean eliminating the need for seasoning and preventing rust issues. Limit cooking tools to plastic or wood to prevent damaging the enamel.
Cast iron is a highly efficient material which absorbs and distributes heat efficiently. For this reason, it is recommended to use on low to medium heat. There are a few exceptions like boiling water where cooking on high heat is appropriate and okay. Otherwise, cooking with high heat may cause food to stick, discolor the enamel coating, or unevenly cook the food. Cast iron also retains heat, keeping food warm while serving.
The benefits of cooking with Le Creuset cast iron are many, but let's get down to the roasting pan specifically. This pan holds 5 1/4 quarts of food, measures 9 3/4 x 14 x 3 inches internally, and weighs 10.2 pounds. 5 1/4 quarts will typically feed 8 - 10 people when it comes to casseroles, consider the rectangular baker for smaller recipes. Except for roasts, the roasting pan tends to do best if at least 3/4 full. Any less and you may overwhelm your food with the pan's evenly dispersed heat.
I find the many benefits of Le Creuset make this pan a worthy purchase. This pan adds a desirable crispy texture to dishes like mac-n-cheese. Add the Le Creuset 9 by 11-1/2 inch roasting rack for roasting chickens and pork loins keeping them out of the grease. Some other possibilities for this pan include casseroles, deep dish pizza, pork chops covered with cornbread dressing, dinner rolls, baked squash, lasagna, scalloped potatoes, cobblers, pineapple upside down cake, or bread pudding. The enamel is attractive, while the cast iron keeps the food warm for serving. Cleaning and caring for this dishwasher safe pan is easy. When properly taken care of, this pan will last a lifetime.
One feature that people tend to complain about is the cost. The cost does seem steep compared to other pans made from other materials. Heck, cast iron doesn't seem like it should be expensive when comparing to that old cast iron pan past generations have used for cornbread and camping. However the manufacturing process requires making a mould for each and every pan produced. They then go through the enameling process before shipping these heavy pans. If you take what goes into making and distributing these high quality cast iron products, the cost tends to make sense. Then consider that this pan will easily last a lifetime when taken care of.
Knowing the benefits and the pleasure I get from using Le Creuset, I don't hesitate to recommend this pan. Purchase this pan and use it for its strengths, you won't be disappointed.
PROS:
Efficient absorption and distribution of heat
Hygienic enamel cooking surface
Does not stain, absorb odors, or retain flavors
Easy to clean when not abused or misused
Can be transferred from stove top to the oven to the table
Dishwasher safe
Can easily last a lifetime
CONS:
Its heavy, as cast iron tends to be weighing in at about 10.2 pounds

Excelled in evenly distributing and efficiently retaining heat, this enameled cast-iron baking dish with its sleek, low profile makes a useful and versatile addition to any busy kitchen. The rectangular-shaped roaster measures approximately 15-3/4 by 10-3/4 by 2-2/3 inches and can hold up to 5-1/4 quarts. Use it for a variety of home-cooked meals--from oven-roasted chicken breasts and homemade lasagna to casseroles or even a side of roasted new potatoes.
Like other pieces in Le Creuset's line of enameled cast iron, the cookware's exterior features a colorful, long-lasting enamel that resists chipping and cracking, while its durable, nonreactive sand-colored enamel interior offers a smooth surface for cooking and an optimal palette for food presentation. As cast iron is unexcelled for even heat distribution and superior heat retention, and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the baking dish cooks food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating, cooking on the stovetop, or finishing in the oven. The cookware also provides integral side handles for a secure grip, and it can be safely used at any oven temperature, under the broiler, and on any stovetop, including induction. Best of all, it moves gracefully from the oven to the table for serving to the refrigerator or freezer for storing leftovers after a family dinner, party, or holiday meal. The rectangular roaster should be hand washed for best results and carries a lifetime limited warranty.

Staub 5 Quart Oval Cocotte, Black Review

Staub 5 Quart Oval Cocotte, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own the predecessor of this Staub pot, the same model but with a domed lid. I received it as a gift a couple of years ago. I am a serious cook-- have taken some culinary classes and enjoy cooking immensely. This pot is quite simply the best roasting pot I have ever owned. It is a very heavy cast iron pot which has been double coated with enamel. The lid and pot fit together perfectly. The craftsmanship is excellent. There are dots protruding from the inside of the lid that essentially channel condensed moisture (steam) back down as liquid onto whatever you're cooking-- sort of creating your own little rainforest in the oven. (You can also use the pot without the lid if you prefer dry heat.)
The design of the lid ensures moist cooking, which tenderizes meats. Cooking a whole chicken (and this pot easily accommodates a very large roaster) with spices and vegetables results in fall-off-the-bone moist, flavorful meat. Cooking a roast of beef or pork? Ditto-- the meat is tender, and the spices are roasted in. Vegetables more your style? This baby makes perfect stews, either on a stovetop or baked.
Best of all, if you season your pot correctly before you use it (instructions are provided), cleanup is a breeze. Just fill the pot with warm soapy water for 15-30 minutes and then wash with a nonabrasive utensil (so as not to scratch the enamel). Even the worst baked on sauces come off easily. Love it.
One word of caution: cutting anything with a sharp knife in your pot may ruin the enamel coating. It's okay to slice into something to test it as long as the knife tip doesn't hit the bottom or sides of the pot. To me, this slight trade-off of convenience is well worth it, given how well the pot works.

Tramontina Gourmet Cast Iron Covered Casseroles Review

Tramontina Gourmet Cast Iron Covered Casseroles
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The price can't be beat! $45 with free shipping is a great value regardless of what I write in this review. I was excited to open the box, and loved the color immediately! I continued to be impressed by the weight of the pot. But after completely un packing, I placed the lid on the pot, and looked at my wife and said, this is why a Le Creuset is $245, and this was only $45. The lid does not seal tightly, and you need to rotate the lid to find the position where it seals best, though it's still not 100%, closer to 90%.
Would I buy it again? Probably. Would I have bought it in a store, where the faults were clear before making the decision to purchase? Probably not. I just cannot justify the $200+ dollars for the "real deal".
I hope this helpful.
UPDATE: After using this dutch oven many times for a variety of dishes, I would increase my rating to 4 stars. The initial dissappointment of the ill fitting lid has faded, and what remains is a pot that does its job well and even out on my bakers rack, next to a Le Creuset, holds its own in terms of looks.

Friends and family will quickly gravitate to the dining-room table with this beautiful casserole as the centerpiece. Measuring 14 by 11-2/7 by 7-4/5 inches, the covered pot holds 6-1/2 quarts, making it perfectly suited for slow cooking homemade soups and stews, sauteing vegetables, braising meats, roasting poultry, baking, and even frying. It also works well for one-dish meals: start by sauteing onions and browning meat, then add liquid and other ingredients to finish on the stovetop or in the oven. The vessel's interior features a light-beige, smooth, porcelain-enamel finish that requires no seasoning, so it's ready to use right out of the box, while its exterior sports a gleaming, vibrant red porcelain-enamel finish that adds a splash of color to any cookware collection.
Constructed from heavy-gauge cast iron, the vessel not only retains and distributes heat evenly (no hot spots to worry about), but it also resists scratches, stains, and the damaging effects of regular household use. Use it on any stovetop, including induction, electric, gas, and ceramic; it can also withstand an oven's heat up to 450 degrees F. Two integrated side handles flank the casserole, helping to ensure safe transport from the kitchen to the tabletop or buffet for use as serveware. The vessel's heavy, secure-fitting lid keeps heat, moisture, and nutrients contained, and its round stay-cool lid knob makes it easy to remove the lid when it's time to give contents a stir or serve up dinner. The covered casserole carries a limited lifetime warranty and cleans up easily by hand with hot, soapy water.

Lodge Enameled Cast Iron 6-Quart Dutch Oven Review

Lodge Enameled Cast Iron 6-Quart Dutch Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Enamel on cast iron cookware like this, was, until recently, only available from makers like Le Creuset. Lately, several lower cost makers have come on the scene, like Target and Innova. The new budget priced Lodge cookware is in the same price range as the low cost alternatives but completely out performs them.
I have all of the brands I have mentioned. The Lodge is the same weight as the Le Creuset which is much heavier than the other budget models. The ridge where the lid and sides meet is a matt black porcelain on the Lodge and Le Creuset but is just exposed cast iron for the other budget models (which leads to rusting if you are not careful). The porcelain resists staining (even tomato sauces) in the Lodge and Le Creuset but the other budget models stain very easily. And finally, the Lodge and Le Creuset maintain a very polished interior finish that resists sticking which others do not. So, I see no performance differences at all between the Le Creuset and the Lodge whereas the comparably priced budget models are certainly inferior.
If you plan of using these pots very heavily (every day for example) you might want to upgrade to the higher priced Lodge product. It has 4 coatings of enamel as opposed to 2 in this model. But if you use them once or twice a week I dont think you will need the added wear resistance.

Le Creuset Square Covered Casserole, 3 Quart Review

Le Creuset Square Covered Casserole, 3 Quart

I couldn't believe my good fortune when I finally found this dish. It is impossible to find a SQUARE baker with a lid anywhere and Amazon came through (well, Le Creuset, too). My primary use for this wonderful baking dish is making the infamous "No Knead Bread" in it. With its square shape it yields a loaf that is perfect for sandwich slices. It is easy to clean and can also be put in the dishwasher. I am very happy with it - there are numerous uses for it!

Sleek and stylish, this square covered casserole by Le Creuset brings both beauty and versatility to any kitchen collection. The 3-quart dish, which measures approximately 9 by 11 by 7 inches, offers a flat base and deep side walls that make it a smart choice for anything from macaroni and cheese to blackberry cobbler and other layered desserts. Thoughtfully designed, it also offers the perfect shape for easily slicing and serving chocolate brownies, dessert bars, and other favorites.
Made from durable stoneware, the dish features a hard-wearing, impermeable finish fired at temperatures as high as 2192 degrees F. With a porosity level of less than 1 percent, the baker blocks moisture absorption, so there's no chipping, cracking, crazing, or rippling along the interior to worry about. Its non-porous construction also resists odors, scratching, and staining for hygienic use and optimal cooking performance. Even more, its high-quality enamel protects against metal marks and other damage, which means it's safe for cutting on with knives. Best of all, the glaze on the exterior makes the dish fun to mix and match with other coordinating Le Creuset pieces (sold separately), while a neutral-colored glaze on the inside offers an optimal palette for food presentation. And thanks to its unmatched thermal resistance from -65 degrees F to 500 degrees F, the dish moves gracefully from the microwave or oven (or under the broiler) to the table for serving to the refrigerator or freezer for storing leftovers. The casserole includes a secure-fitting lid with a round-shaped knob to help trap heat and moisture (the interchangeable lid also fits Le Creuset's shallow 1-1/2-quart 9-inch square dish), and its integrated sure-grip side handles facilitate steady transport. When finished, the casserole cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Pate/Terrines Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Pate/Terrines
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Le Creuset manufactures porcelain enameled cast iron cooking vessels as well as other products. Le Creuset casts these cooking vessels from molten iron poured in sand moulds that are used only once. For this reason, one pot may look like another, but each is unique in its own way.
Cast iron is a highly efficient material which absorbs and distributes heat efficiently. For this reason, it is recommended that cooking with cast iron is done on low to medium heat. There are exceptions like boiling water where cooking on high heat is appropriate and okay. Removing cast iron from the heat and it does not cool off quickly. This helps your food stay warm while serving. Beware; iron tends to be heavy so these cooking vessels tend to be heavy as well.
Cast iron is an effective material for cooking so why cover it with enamel? Iron tends to rust; iron oxide (rust) doesn't add any complimentary flavors to your food. If your cast iron cooking vessel was not enameled, you would have to season and maintain your cooking vessel. Adding the porcelain enamel not only looks good, but has multiple benefits. The enamel, being a solid coating, is also one of the most hygienic surfaces to cook on, does not stain, absorb odors, retain flavors, and is easy to clean. The enamel can be damaged, so limit cooking tools to plastic or wood when possible.
The benefits of cooking with Le Creuset cast iron are many, but lets get down to the Pate Terrine specifically. With a flat bottom that curves up this pan resembles a narrow loaf pan. This pan is about 11 3/4 inches in long, 3 1/4 in wide and 2 1/2 in deep measured from the internal cavity. The pan, being made for making pate and terrines comes with a vented lid which fits snuggly in the pans recessed rim.
This is yet another versatile pan in the Le Creuset line of products. Pates are not so popular these days and terrines seem even less so. However if you know how to make them, this is the pan to use. Pre-made pates and terrines are on the expensive side, making your own will eventually pay for this pan. Don't limit yourself to the original purpose of the pan though. I have used this pan to make lasagna for two, bread, cake, scalloped potatoes, and meatloaf. Since cast iron evenly distributes heat, it also evenly distributes cold to use this pan for making a Jello mold or your own jellied cranberry sauce.
PROS:
Versatility
Efficient absorption and distribution of heat
Hygienic enamel cooking surface
Does not stain, absorb odors, or retain flavors
Easy to clean when not abused or misused
Can be transferred from stove top to the oven to the table
Can easily last a lifetime
CONS:

I was looking for good solid cookware that would allow me to bake salmon & vegetables (instead of wrapping in aluminum foil). The deep dish washes out clean, and, when covered, keep the food moist and delicious. I sometimes use a lid from another piece of Le Creuset cookware to cover this pan and turn it into a clay oven of sorts. I am very pleased...

That I bought another one so I could bake two loaves at once. We go through a lot of bread here, and I love to share with friends and neighbors so I bake almost daily.
Through the years I have tried all sorts of bakeware. For artisan breads I like the cloche by Sassafrass. But for regular loaves you can't beat these stoneware pans. The bread comes out evenly browned, with a lovely rise and shape every time.
Easy to clean, also works fine for meatloaf. And beautiful. What's not to love?
I'm a longtime believer in cast iron so I am slowly collecting Le Creuset pieces. I have other stoneware baking pieces of theirs and they all perform wonderfully.
This stuff is pricey, each purchase has been saved and planned for. And you can cook just as well in a Lodge skillet or dutch oven. It doesn't have to be blue or enamel lined. If you don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, or aren't concerned about food safety issues, maybe you don't need it. I have a gas stove and before that a wood stove. I suspect this cookware performs better there than on an electric stove top. The ovens should be the same.
If you love to cook and slow food is your style, these products are a good investment. They will serve you well for a lifetime. Then you can will them to the lucky ones.
