Meat Grinder Attachment for the Bosch Universal Plus Kitchen Machine Review

Meat Grinder Attachment for the Bosch Universal Plus Kitchen Machine

I have had a meat grinder for my Bosch mixer for more than 20 years and use it though out the year. My husband hunts, so we cut up meat most every fall and the meat grinder really makes hamburger fast. I use a cheap beef roast to grind with the venison or elk and make 20-50 pounds of burger to freeze. The grinder is worth its weight in gold to me, we would not make burger without it (I used a hand grinder before purchasing the Bosch). Watch the disks as they will rust if not washed and dried and be sure to wash every nook and cranny as they will collect meat. I also, have the sausage stuffer, its tricky to use, but its fun to eat your own sausages. My grinder cost less than this, but if you are serious about grinder your own burger and sausage, you should consider this meat grinder.

BlendTec Mix n' Blend II Mixer/Blender - K-tec Mixer / Blender Combo Review

BlendTec Mix n' Blend II Mixer/Blender - K-tec Mixer / Blender Combo

I purchased the Mix and Blend machine by K-tec over two years ago. I have had at least five if not six replacement machines. I grind my own wheat and bought the machine originally to mix my wheat dough, but the machines keep breaking. K-tec has been very good about replacing the motor bases, but in the end I had to purchase a more expensive dough maker from another company to solve my problem. Basically, I wasted over $300. Don't buy this machine if you think that you want to mix up wheat dough. It just does not hold up. The vital parts are plastic.

Bosch Blender for Bosch Universal Plus Review

Bosch Blender for Bosch Universal Plus

My mom bought me a Bosch Universal Plus, and it came with the blender. The first time I used it I made my daughter a kale smoothie with banana and blueberries, and I was amazed at how well it blended the kale! The smoothie was silky smooth in less than a minute whereas my old $50 blender took 15 minutes of on/off/push-the-stuff-down-action and left little kale bits that gave the smoothie a grainy texture. I was blown away. I have since made hummus and almond meal in my blender, and we make green smoothies on a regular basis. I'm going to try making raw almond butter in it later this week. This thing is seriously amazing. I had heard good things about a Vitamix before receiving this blender, but from what I've heard about the Vitamix, this blender does just as good of a job.
The only downside is the noise. It is REALLY loud, but fortunately, my kitchen is on the opposite end of the house from the bedrooms. If you don't mind the noise, then DEFINITELY buy this if you use a blender regularly. It is well worth your money.
Another note: if you make hummus in your blender (which, by the way, makes it fluffier than making it in a food processor!), it will take some time to push the chickpeas down and move them around. I filled the container to the top with chickpeas one day and then added the other ingredients, and I left it running on high speed for too long. The motor cut off, and after worrying that I had killed my mixer, I read that the mixer motor will cut off if it gets overheated. Unplug it, let it rest for 15 minutes or so, and then try again. And don't let it run so long next time! I think it would have been fine if I had not filled it quite so full.

KitchenAid Food Processors - (9 Cup) Review

KitchenAid Food Processors - (9 Cup)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Boy, am I glad I bought this processor. It is well designed and well made. You definitely get what you pay for.
The base unit is big (10" x 8" x 6" high) and heavy. But it is amazingly quiet. It has large rubber feet which prevent the unit from moving or vibrating on the counter. The motor has enough torque to mix or rip through anything dropped in it.
The work bowl is wider than the previous 9 cup model (7") which makes it very easy to work inside and remove the contents. Another nice touch is the bowl cover which fits over both the inside and outside rim of the work bowl to prevent spillage. The large food pusher is also a measuring cup. Many of the 12 cup accessories fit this processor, too.
The mini bowl accessory is useful because it easily drops into the large work bowl and then quickly chops small amounts of ingredients. The processor comes with the mini bowl & blade, dough blade, 2 mm slicing disk, 4 mm shredding disk and spatula. The booklet has 18 pages of well illustrated instructions (all English) and another 22 pages of recipes.
Final note: This item is securely packed in styrofoam. In addition, KitchenAid encloses the box inside a slightly larger shipping carton. This prevents the product and its box from being damaged during shipment from Amazon's warehouse - another nice touch.

With its 1/2-horsepower motor, this convenient food processor quickly and easily slices, dices, chops, and purees, helping to reduce prep time in the kitchen. Its durable sealed housing creates a sound barrier for quiet operation, while pulse control provides precision results when a light touch is needed. Ideal for making bread, the food processor combines medium capacity with full-size power and includes a dough blade that mixes and kneads yeast dough for pizza or bread.
Accessories include a 9-cup work bowl, a multipurpose stainless-steel blade, a large feed tube, and a full-size food pusher, as well as a 4-cup mini bowl with a multipurpose stainless-steel blade, a fine 2-mm slicing disc, a medium 4-mm shredding disc, and a spatula. Instructions and a recipe guide are also included. The base of the appliance wipes clean easily and the bowls, blades, and discs are dishwasher-safe for quick cleanup. Stylish and functional for today's busy kitchen, the food processor measures 10-1/2 by 14-1/2 by 8-9/32 inches and carries a one-year hassle-free replacement warranty.

Bosch Universal Plus Mixer with Blender; includes Cookie Paddles with Metal Whip Driver Review

Bosch Universal Plus Mixer with Blender; includes Cookie Paddles with Metal Whip Driver

I was looking for a either a kitchen-aid or Bosch mixer and after much research decided to go with the Bosch. The new kitchen-aids seem to be more concerned with offering the right selection of designer colours than making careful decisions about quality manufacturing. I have read all the reports of Kitchen-aids with melted plastic gearbox housings and leaking oil. They may have fixed some of these problems by now but the pedigree is not that of the Hobart produced machines of old. When whirlpool bought the kitchen-aid brand they obviously did a redesign to cut corners and make more money without due care to quality. I am not willing to spend over $400 on a machine that could fall apart after the warranty runs out, Bosch still builds there own machines and care about their reputation.
The machine does everything I have tried. Whips eggs better than any other mixer I have tried. Makes cookie dough faster than I thought possible(used cookie mixing paddles). Made a batch a of scones easily (used cookie mixing paddles). Tried it with pastry it worked perfectly(used pastry wire whips, not the whips that come with the machine. Made a batch of bread buns with the interesting looking bread hook, and they turned out great. The dough hook was even able to perfectly distribute the raisins I added part way through the kneading process.
I was a bit worried by some kitchen-aids users saying the Bosch would not handle small batches well, but I didn't have a problem with small batches. I tried large and small batches, both worked well. Maybe if you were only mixing a few cups of something it may not be the best choice, but really I would rather save the hassle and mix that in a bowl by hand. The kitchen-aids might have a slight advantage with less to clean, but it is only small difference. The Bosch is 800watts, double most of the new kitchen-aids and well I have a hard time believing people that try to say a kitchen-aids will do more than 2 loaves of bread with their lower powered motors. Also the Bosch takes up less counter space and can be easily slipped under cabinets away from the work area when need be.
I think Bosch makes a good mixer.

Vitamix Tritan Copolyester 32-Ounce Container with Dry Blade, Lid, and Recipe Book Review

Vitamix Tritan Copolyester 32-Ounce Container with Dry Blade, Lid, and Recipe Book
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a huge Vitamix fan and have used one for many years. Mine didn't come with a dry blade container so I purchased one separately more recently. There's no question that it does a great job with coffee and whole grains, but the regular container works fine for some of those things, too. Recently I started grinding my own grains for bread on occasion. For example, I couldn't find sunflower seed flour so bought some kernels and made my own. I found the regular container made this flour meal just as well as this dry blade container did. Both were fast and effective. The regular container also made wheat flour, powdered sugar and other nut flours just fine. This container did a better job with coffee however.
Then, as long as I was experimenting, I decided to make my morning smoothie in this smaller container, and voila, it worked great, so I've been using this small one more for smaller quantities of things than because the blade is different.
All in all, I'm healthier because of the Vitamix which has proven its worth many times over. I like having the second smaller container and use it regularly, but not necessarily for dry processing since both blade types seem to handle the majority of things. I haven't used the recipe book (which didn't come with my container when I bought it some time ago) so I can't speak to that, but I do believe the container itself is a nice addition to my Vitamix, though not a requirement. One last note: the regular tamper also works with this container because of the tamper's graduated size and this container's smaller plug size.

Designed specifically for grinding grains with the Vita-Mix appliance, this large 32-ounce dry-blade container can be used as a replacement jar or a second jar. The see-through unit allows for keeping an eye on the process, while its hardened stainless-steel blades quickly and thoroughly grind. In addition to grinding fresh flour, it can also be used to grind beans, rice, and soybeans into flour for gluten-free recipes. A recipe book comes included. The container's drip-free spout ensures graceful pouring, and its raised calibrations make it easy to measure in ounces, cups, or metrics. The included two-part locking lid offers a secure spill-proof fit, removes easily, and vents to allow hot or cold food to expand and contract. The lid also supplies a removable measuring cap for adding ingredients during operation. Furthermore, the unit's made from Eastman Tritan copolyester material, which makes it virtually unbreakable, BPA-free, and more chemical resistant. The 32-ounce container measures 7-1/2 by 9 by 13-1/2 inches and carries a full five-year warranty.

Universal Plus Kitchen Machine (w/ out blender) Review

Universal Plus Kitchen Machine (w/ out blender)
Average Reviews:

This mixer is powerful. You have the main unit where you attach your bowl, and a secondary unit where you can attach a blender.
There are many, many accessories you can buy for this unit. Be sure if you buy accessories you buy for the correct unit as accessories for this model are NOT interchangeable with Bosch's previous all-in-one machine! I've already had to return one attachment because I made this mistake. Look for accessories that have a model number starting with MUZ6!
This machine tears up just about any food you throw at it. When you turn it on you can get the feel for the full 800 watts of power it is capable of by it's roaring sound. You may need to run to your circuit breakers to find a suitable plug for the unit, since 800watts is just about the limit most circuit breakers can take. It's doubtful you can run this unit along with another kitchen appliance at the same time in the same receptacle.
Cleanup is not fun, not fun at all. I did not like the design of the bowl in this aspect. There are plenty of crooks and crevices that dough gets in that take some scrubbing to get out. Also, the top/center of the bowl serves as the "gears" for some of your accessories, but when not using them, they catch quite a bit of food in them, and it is difficult to clean.
While on the subject of the bowl, other than cleanup, it's an awesome design. There is a removable splash guard around the rim that allows you to add flour to a recipe, while the unit is running without making a mess. You also have another lid that fits into the splash guard for the bowl to cover it should you need to rise dough.
My unit came with the blender, so I'll review it here as well. The blender is wonderful too. I can actually grind my own wheat in it for pancakes and cleanup is a snap. Also the design of the blades is ingenious as one blade is actually pointed downward toward the base to clear shop where most blenders don't touch. One problem I did have was with the blades and how they attach to the blender. They are removable, but when you put them back you need to really make sure that you tighten it well. If they are not tight enough, your blended battery goo will fall down into the crevices of the machine, which could possibly damage it. There are unfortunately small holes where this could easily occur. Unfortunately when you tighten the blades down, it's really difficult to get them untightened (Believe me, I'm a man, it's hard!). I end up having to get a pair of pliers and using them backwards (grip handles on the device) to get the blades out.
Another issue with the blender that has to potential to drive me nuts is the small removable top (not the main blender top, but the small plastic piece you can remove to stuff food down). There is a hole in it! Not large, probably about 1/4 inch, but it's still large enough that if you blend just right your stuff will come out of the blender. There is absolutely nothing you can do about this, shy of sticking your finger, a napkin or paper towel down it while blending. Bosch wanted this to act more like a drip funnel, but I just don't get the point of having a hole here.
Hands down, this is a great unit, and Bosch has a known reputation of creating kitchen units that last for years, even decades! I would definitely recommend this one to anyone serious about cooking in their home!
