(More customer reviews)I needed to replace a set of aging, dented old stainless mixing bowls. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyplace local that had a decent set. I wanted something heavy and durable, with commercial quality. These certainly fit the bill.
These bowls are made of a thick, high quality stainless steel. They have an edge across the rim that makes gripping them easy and comfortable. They're deep, which means that there is minimal "slop factor" when mixing liquids in them. I have a young daughter who likes to help in the kitchen, and sometimes gets a little over-animated in her mixing!
I've worked as a baker and chef, and can say that these bowls would easily stand up to the rigors of a commercial kitchen. Down sides? Some people may not appreciate the weight. Drop one on your floor and they'll leave a dent in the floor. Drop one on your foot and you may need to visit the doctor. Also, the largest of the four is big, and some may find the set takes up a lot of room in their cupboard. But, I'd say that these are not concerns of anyone wanting an indestructible set of mixing bowls that will last them forever.

Good balance and weight distribution provide stability during mixing, and the shallow, roomy interior allows for good mixing "action". Thick rim gives a firm grip. White interior makes it easy to see contents and makes it easier to clean. I purchased this as a replacement for a much heavier Roseville, Ohio Pottery bowl that I had for 20 years which fell and broke. I was disappointed that the Roseville bowls were no longer available, and looked high and low for something similar. I finally found this one, and, after getting used to the lighter weight, I think it's a superior product as the Roseville bowl lacked all of the above characteristics. If you do large quantity baking or cooking, this bowl is indispensable.

Amco 6-Quart Stainless-Steel Mixing Bowl Review

(More customer reviews)I should've listened to the previous reviewer. I'm not sure how these bowls are normally measured, but even though it claims a 6-quart capacity, in my tests using a liquid measuring cup, this bowl only holds up to 19 cups (4.75 quarts) before spilling over, which of course is an impractical level to fill a bowl. So 4 quarts is probably more accurate, and even then I'd be worried about mixing stuff over the edge depending on what's in it.
In spite of this, I've happily used it to mix dough and fillings, and as part of a makeshift double boiler with a 3qt pot. It's a sturdy stainless steel mixing bowl with a flat bottom and a brushed metal appearance, nothing special. It doesn't have a rubber bottom like some brands, but you can always put a rubber mat or damp kitchen towel under it if that bothers you. Just make sure you aren't actually planning on putting more than a gallon of stuff in it at one time.

(More customer reviews)I really wanted to like these bowls. They were a great price and a good weight for a nice and sturdy mixing bowl. The lids fit nicely as well. However, the first time I stored food in one of the bowls overnight it formed rust spots that would not come off. I cleaned the next bowl (I ordered three sizes) right away and left it to dry in the dish drainer. It too formed rust spots. I have a cheap stainless steel bowl from a big box store that has never formed rust spots in three years so this poor quality is unacceptable.
