(More customer reviews)I needed to replace a set of aging, dented old stainless mixing bowls. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyplace local that had a decent set. I wanted something heavy and durable, with commercial quality. These certainly fit the bill.
These bowls are made of a thick, high quality stainless steel. They have an edge across the rim that makes gripping them easy and comfortable. They're deep, which means that there is minimal "slop factor" when mixing liquids in them. I have a young daughter who likes to help in the kitchen, and sometimes gets a little over-animated in her mixing!
I've worked as a baker and chef, and can say that these bowls would easily stand up to the rigors of a commercial kitchen. Down sides? Some people may not appreciate the weight. Drop one on your floor and they'll leave a dent in the floor. Drop one on your foot and you may need to visit the doctor. Also, the largest of the four is big, and some may find the set takes up a lot of room in their cupboard. But, I'd say that these are not concerns of anyone wanting an indestructible set of mixing bowls that will last them forever.

Commercial Bagel Biter Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned the original version of the bagel biter (residential version) for a few years and used it a lot.
The only issue I had with it was that it was/is hard to get larger bagels in to cut, and the blade got dull and is not replaceable.
So, when I went to replace it I saw the reviews here for the commercial version and several positive comments about cutting larger bagels.
So I bought this product and what I found is that it is the identical size of my original version...2" X 5". This was a disappointment.
The ONLY differences I see are that this one says for Commercial use only, it is grey and the original was white, and the blade is replaceable (nice feature).
Otherwise they seem to be identical. I still struggle to fit my bagels from Giant into the cutter. Also, the cost on Amazon of the residential version is about the cost of a replacement blade for this product. So in retrospect I would have just bought the original version for a lot less $$ had I known they are really the same except for replaceable blade.

(More customer reviews)My new (6 month old) pyrex broke violently shortly after it was taken out of the oven and set on the oven to cool. None of the stove top burners were on or had been on for hours, and ut was NOT on a burner which vents heat from the oven. All the dish contained was bread pudding, and it certainly hadn't been roasting under the broiler. The glass shards were numerous, large, sharp, very hot, and flew everywhere, with an enormously loud breaking sound, so whether or not you want to call that an explosion, I'm very glad I wasn't in the room. I've been cooking with pyrex my whole life and never had a problem with it before, so I'm loth to give it a bad review, but it was a pretty scary experience.

Corelle Square 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4, Pure White Review

(More customer reviews)These are a nice size and the shape is also nice--has a smaller footprint than the round plates if you are cramped for cupboard space. They are made of the traditional thin Corelle material and are a more "shallow" plate--like the traditional Corelle plain white dishes.
If you like the square shape and want a Corelle set that is a little fancier in solid white that will dress up for formal occasions, you may want to consider the award winning Corelle Scandia White in Corelle's Ultra line. The Scandia White pattern has a fancier mold and the plates are a little deeper and thicker than this set.
The major difference in the Ultra line and this set is the Ultras are 70% thicker than the traditional Corelle and have three layers of "glass" on the finish instead of the one layer on this set--The Ultras have a glossier finish--elegant--and a little more weight. These are nice, but for the same price at Walmart, you can have the square Ultras.
I spoke with a Corelle rep on the phone and asked her about the difference between this set and the Scandia White set. She said she owns BOTH sets, but is planning to give her set like this away and only keep the new Scandia White set.
The local Walmart did not carry the Scandia White Ultra, but carries several other Ultra square patterns. They also do not identify them as Ultra, but they are Ultra.
Corelle has introduced serving pieces in the past month in the Corelle material that match this set. The matching pieces for the Scandia White pattern are made of stoneware.
This set will give YEARS of service and may be preferable for someone looking for lighter weight dinnerware. The lighter weight may be easier for children and elderly hands to carry and handle. This is a GREAT everyday pattern.
