(More customer reviews)While I don't consider this a kitchen essential, it is definitely one of the "nice to have" items. Our family goes through quite a few bagels a week, and cutting them with the guillotine and then freezing them makes life a lot easier. My kids are older and can use a knife, but I prefer they use the guillotine so as not to risk life and limb! My only complaint is I wish the product were available in black to match my kitchen decor.

Commercial Bagel Biter Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned the original version of the bagel biter (residential version) for a few years and used it a lot.
The only issue I had with it was that it was/is hard to get larger bagels in to cut, and the blade got dull and is not replaceable.
So, when I went to replace it I saw the reviews here for the commercial version and several positive comments about cutting larger bagels.
So I bought this product and what I found is that it is the identical size of my original version...2" X 5". This was a disappointment.
The ONLY differences I see are that this one says for Commercial use only, it is grey and the original was white, and the blade is replaceable (nice feature).
Otherwise they seem to be identical. I still struggle to fit my bagels from Giant into the cutter. Also, the cost on Amazon of the residential version is about the cost of a replacement blade for this product. So in retrospect I would have just bought the original version for a lot less $$ had I known they are really the same except for replaceable blade.

It has a guard so it is impossible to injure yourself. More importantly, the Teflon-coated blade slides through bagels like butter, giving a clean, perfect slice every time. And it's large enough to hold the thicker bagels that one often finds. You will not be disappointed with this item.

(More customer reviews)I just ordered my 2nd slicer. I lost my 1st one in a recent move. It is perfect because it accommodates both hard and soft bagels, and any thickness. The bottom portion has a rubber ring that prevents the slicer from skidding, which makes cutting bagels very safe.

It would be perfect if the section the holds the bagel could be adjusted, not all bagels are the same thickness, some of my bagels barely fit into the hold or it was difficult to cut the bagel perfectly in half--meaning 1/2 the bagel in a toaster oven is chrispy and the other lightly done. Overall, I'm pleased with this product.

Bread and Bagel Slicer Guide (Clear) (6"H x 6" W x 9"D) Review

(More customer reviews)I have never tried any other brand of bread slicer, but this one did everything I wanted it to do with no problem at all.
The slices came out to be from 1/2" to 3/4" thick, so they fit okay into my toaster. The clear acrylic is strong so the bottom doesn't get cut in any way. There are a few crumbs left on the counter after the bread slicing, but they are easily brushed away into the sink for disposal.
The bread knife I used has an 18" long blade, which fit perfectly into the slots and across the bread. One would probably need a blade that long to slice the bread. I found that after slicing across a few times, I could just pressure the blade downward to complete the job.
It is not a bulky item, attractive and easily stored, and comes with a bagel slicing insert as well. Can be put in a dishwasher (I'd go for the top rack). However, it rinses easily to get it totally clean.
Can't think of anything to criticise. A great compliment to my new Zojirushi Breadmaking Machine, which is terrific as well. I really lucked out in this experimemental segment of my life!!!

(More customer reviews)I make home made bread alot. Problem with current knife? I can't get the slices thin enough for sandwiches, and the bread crumbles, or squishes or.....This slicer is amazing! It actually slices thinner than any knife I have ever owned! Finally sandwich slices (1/2" or less) instead of irregular thick slices. I own a knife with a slicing guide ("magic knife") and its good for meat, but not so much for bread as it won't slice thin without a mess. This blade is razor thin and cuts through hot or cooled bread so easily you will be shocked. Don't hesitate to get it!

Well I completely agree with the first review that this slicer is AWESOME!! Cuts like butter whether the loaf is hot or cooled without smooshing. Highly recommend.
