I am single woman so no strong man around to help me get it apart. Can't wait to use the others. I have sprayed them all with Pam now so I HOPE to not have that problem again...once I can get the one piece apart.

KitchenAid GMA Grain Mill Attachment for Stand Mixers Review

(More customer reviews)This attachment reveals a design flaw in the Kitchenaid Mixer design. Inside every Kitchenaid Mixer you have a transmission/gearbox that drive both the mixer and the accessory drive shaft. This gearbox has a PLASTIC cover that holds all the gears in place.
The grain mill attachment places the *most* stress on your kitchenaid, more than any other attachment you can buy. What happens is when you're grinding wheat, it heats up that gearbox and the plastic cover starts to flex, and if you run it more than 10 minutes it'll heat up enough to break the plastic.
I bought this attachement for my wife for Christmas 2004. It broke the transmission and stripped the gears on the mixer in January. We removed the cover and saw the cracked plastic. Kitchenaid promptly sent a replacement mixer even though ours was "out of warranty". This tells me that they KNOW about their design flaw.
We got our shiny new Kitchenaid Mixer the next week. My wife took it out of the box, attached the grain mill and started it grinding flour. Within 10 minutes the plastic cover failed on the new one. Kitchenaid sent out a new one, again. We're now on our third mixer and we're looking to get a refund from Kitchenaid for the Grain Mill so we can go out and buy a real wheat grinder.
It's really sad. All Kitchenaid needs to do is put a metal gearbox cover on the transmission and you could grind wheat into flour non-stop. I can't believe that they're willing to stake their good name on a plastic part!

(More customer reviews)When I first bought my Kitchenaid mixer the paddle attachment was getting the most use, but now that I have moved into breadmaking the Dough Hook gets a lot of use. What I love about the dough hook is that it makes kneeding all textures of dough easy. Whether I'm using it to knead a lighter airy-er dough or a stiffer whole wheat dough this hook does a great job. It makes light work of making dough and is also great when making seitan and other gluten-based meat substitutes. Though I sometimes appreciate the effort of kneading dough by hand I feel little need to to do it much anymore since this hook perfectly develops the gluten and creates evenly mixed, elastic dough. Highly recommended for anyone who often makes homemade bread dough.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Beater Blade to use with my Viking 7-Qt. mixer; my primary use of that machine is making artisan breads.
I love my Viking mixer for bread making, but occasionally use it to make cookies which contain a high proportion of oatmeal. Thus, the dry ingredients are prone to gathering along the sides and bottom of the mixing bowl and require that I stop the mixer, lift the head and move the ingredients using a spatula. While that isn't exactly a Herculean task, it is annoying. However, due to a stubborn streak and a less than industrious attitude on the particular day, I tried scraping the side of the bowl while the mixer was down and moving - even though I know better. The result was a broken spatula - just as one would expect.
When I saw this Beater Blade, I thought it might solve the problem. Once you have adjusted the Beater Blade, it does an excellent job of clearing the sides and bottom of the bowl. If you mix a lot of cookie dough or batter-type foods, then this item is well worth the money you will spend for it. The Beater Blade doesn't generate heat like the metal beaters, and, as a result, shortenings do not melt during creaming. The final product is much less "soupy" than when making cookie doughs using a metal beater. However, if you use your mixer primarily for breads, as I do, then the the Beater Blade is probably something you can live without.
I rated this item four stars because its utility is questionable in relation to the cost. Further, I have some concern about the longevity of the blade itself and whether it will wear quickly or whether it will become brittle if washed in the dishwasher.

Wrap-And-Mat Food Pouch and Eating Mat Review

(More customer reviews)This was a product I really wanted to like. It's a wonderful idea but didn't work out quite so well in real life. The wrap mat does keep the sandwich fresh but doesn't protect it from the other items floating in my son's lunchbox, such as milk or apples.
It needs to be hand-washed with warm, soapy water and left to air dry - which means you can't wash it at the last minute. In a pinch, just wipe down the plastic liner. I did try machine washing and drying, with unsuccessful results. (For those of you who want to know what happened, the plastic shrinks and warps.)
If I were to redesign this product, I would try a laminated fabric used for high-quality cloth-diaper covers. This would make the product machine washable and more durable overall.
Meanwhile, I've gone back to the plastic sandwich box, and it's working out just fine. BTW, no one should be using plastic bags for sandwiches anymore...
