(More customer reviews)I could not do without this product. I have made not only Quesadilla's but also pancakes, omlets, sandwiches, and I am still looking at more recipes. It takes only 2 mintues for a thick pancake compared to on a stovetop. My only negative on this unit is that if you use butter it is very messy and hard to cleanup. If this had removeable plates it would be a 5 star in my book. Well worth the $20 I paid for it.

Bake favorite quesadilla recipes right at home in just minutes with this easy-to-use quesadilla maker. (More customer reviews)I've been wanting Giada's Cast-Iron Panini Pan with Press for a while now. My husband finally bought it for me for my birthday. It's beautiful and I love the way it looks. I was sooooo excited to use it. I went out and purchased the finest ingredients to make gourmet panini for my family. There was no instructions as to any seasoning of the product. I made sure to brush oil on the outside of the bread as well as a little on the pan to make sure there was no sticking. Sure enough the time came to turn the panini. As I lifted the press off I saw a nice beginning then I attempted to turn the panini over and my panini ripped. Then I proceeded on to place the press and continue to cook. Agian the other side stuck. As I plated it and took a bite. The flavor was great and it did it's job however beacuse the bread stuck to the pan the center of the panini was soft and mushy. I was really bummed. For the next one I put on more oil but I had the ripping occured everytime. I then looked up cast-iron pans on the internet. The pan needed to be seasoned. I oiled the pan and put it in an oven at 300 for 30 minutes. The next time I attempted it again but I had the same result. don't know what I'm going to do with this pan now. I'm thinging of trying to cook chicken on it. Let me know if anyone has experienced the same problem as myself.

George Foreman GR10ABW Champ Grill with Bun Warmer, White Review

(More customer reviews)I've been watching George's informercials and regular commercials since they first appeared, and I've always been tempted to buy a grill. They were kinda pricey, so I never did. But then, I got one of the small grills with the bun warmer as a gift, and now... I AM HOOKED! I have every intention of buying the extra large grill as a result of the fun I've had with this one.
What you've heard about the grills is all true--they're really easy to clean, they cook food incredibly fast and evenly, and food really does come out as juicy and tender as the commercials show you. Tell you how good it works: I decided to grill skinless, boneless chicken tenders one night for dinner, but they were frozen solid, and I had a group of surly, hungry family members waiting. Just as a gamble, I put the tenders on the George grill to THAW them a little. Well, they thawed all right and were completely cooked in about 8 minutes. Color me surprised!
I've done steak, pork chops, chicken, and shrimp on this little grill, and with each use, I get better and better at gauging the cooking time. I do recommend that you use cooking spray to further the ease of cleanup because spices and marinades tend to blacken (or even burn) where the ridges press into the meat, and cooking spray will slow/stop that. As there's no temperature control on this model, everything cooks at max power, so time is of the essence in making sure what you're cooking doesn't blacken too much.
The bun warmer does just what it promises--warms. No worries about burning the bread because it doesn't toast; it just makes your breads nice and soft. I enjoy the color choices for the lid with this model--I think it's a fun little extra that gives some personality to a simple appliance (I recommend the purple). There's a spatula and drip tray included, and you'll find that the spatula is better used as a scraper than it is for anything else--it makes short work of removing stuck-on food, etc. You'll be stunned to see just how much fat drains away from your food.
If I had to come up with one negative point about the grill, I'd say this: it's not hard to burn yourself on it. The heated surface extends to the sides of the grill, so if you go to move the whole unit, it's really easy to char your fingers.
It's a great introduction to the George Foreman line of grills! The price is incredibly reasonable, and the machine works so well, you'll be glad you got one.

West Bend 6112 Panini Press and Sandwich Maker Review

(More customer reviews)Firstly let me tell you why all the others suck : I had a fancy Cuisinart for 2 months with the removable heating plates and ended up throwing it way. They are made into "sandwhich shapes" for whatever reason and are supposedly dishwasher safe - NONSENSE . The problem here is that they are impossible to clean. I think the "crinkle cut" ones are also going to be super hard to keep clean. Everything sticks to them - so you have to be very aggressive when you remove your sandwich especially since everything is unbelievably hot and you have starving kids plucking at you. FRUSTRATING.
The West Bend on the other hand is flat. Just use a spatula and the sandwhich pops off. No need to use butter or Pam. Wait for it to cool and then wipe with a damp paper towel. I think the big thing is to not scratch the non stick surface - and the fact that this one is flat makes a big difference. It also has plenty of heat to warm everything up all the way through without having to burn the bread. No temp controls - really don't miss them.There is an indicator to tell you when the press is at temperature. All you need.
Very nice product - very nice price. I was prepared to spend up to $300 and I just got this. Very very happy! If all you want is a really good (small - or should that be compact ) toasted sandwich maker (2 max ) - stop here and just buy it.
Yes it won't do nice grill marks on chicken or on your sandwiches - but who cares.
It also has ridges all round the bottom - so the fat/chess etc doesn't run out and onto the counter - most of the others just let it ooze out the front .. (if you are lucky )

But I do love to cook but ran out of time with my job nowadays and this does the perfect job of allowing me to cook quickly and clean up just as quickly. I'm very happy with mine! Of note, some people are bothered by the small size. It's just me so it's perfect and possibly perfect for 2 people. Get a bigger size if you cook for a lot of people.

By cooking foods from the top as well as from the bottom simultaneously, maximum moisture and flavor is retained. The one thing that is not retained is the fat, which runs out along channels in the slightly slanted grill to a dishwasher safe drip-tray out front. The grill marks provide caramelized flavor and an appealing apperance for steaks, chicken breasts, seafood, veggies and more. While your food is cooking you can also warm up buns, tortillas, rolls and other bread items on top. After the party's over simply scrape with the plastic spatula and wipe clean with a paper towel or sponge. This model is an ideal size for cooking food for one or two people.

Hamilton Beach 25450 Gourmet Panini Press Review

(More customer reviews)You can't give this machine a bad rating. This Hamilton Beach Panini Press does one thing and one thing only, but it does it very well. If you enjoy pressed/grilled sandwhiches you will love this machine. As I write this I'm eating a feta/olive/artichoke/roasted peppers on pita sandwhich hot off the panini press, and it's scrumptious. I actually bought this as a christmas gift for my mother, but I probably use it more than she does.
The machine looks good on the counter, and has a large, non stick service. It's not on a hinge so it's designed to accept even the thickest sandwhiches without squeezing all the filling out. You can even "lock" the lid down to apply constant pressure, or lock it up to maintain minimal pressure or to not make contact with the top at all. It's great for quesidillas as well. Ignore the user that says it takes too long to heat up, it takes only a couple of minutes, about the time a waffle maker would take to heat. Even cooking on the stove you need to take a few mins to heat the pan! Also ignore the comment that this machine burns the bread before heating the filling, I've never had such problems, although I do wish there was a temperature control for further versatillity. But my bread never burns... I find 2-6 min will brown the bread perfectly, from lightly browned to nice and crispy (depending on how you like it) without burning it at all. I've never burned anything on this machine. I even once used it to grill some chicken, and it did the job nicely, though it's not really designed for that.
The only down sides are that there are no frills. I've seen other models that come with nice recipe books, this one has just a few hastily thrown together recipe ideas in the instruction booklet. There's no temp control either, which is fine, but it would be nice to have some kind of control (it would be more convenient if you wanted to use it for alternative purposes. The machine gets very hot, but that's to be expected. There's no alternate "plates" or cooking surfaces for say a flat "griddle" style surface, so you'll have to settle for the striated grate style surface, which in all honestly is not a big deal at all.
This is a great machine, at a decent price. It could be better with a temp control, some extra features, and a better recipe book, but all-in-all, you can't complain. It does its job, and does it very well.

Sanyo EM-C6786V 1-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven with Convection and Grill Review

(More customer reviews)We have owned our Sanyo Microwave Oven with convection and grill for almost two months, and have attempted to test all functions in order to write a complete review. We rely heavily on reviews to help us decide what to buy, so we did our best to evaluate this oven. At almost $180.00 it is not a trivial purchase.
The design is sleek, and the controls easy to use -- but as other reviewers cautioned, keep the booklet handy!
The microwave functions -- cook, auto menu cooking (limited to microwave), auto reheat all work as well as our last microwave -- a G/E over the range.
However, the conbined functions -- micro plus grill, convection plus grill, leave much to be desired.
The roast chicken function -- a combination of micro and grilling is neat and works well -- but does not save time, although it probably saves energy and kitchen heat compared to cooking chicken in a standard oven. When the chicken was taste-tested our family concluded that it was pretty good chicken and assumed that the time to cook was materially reduced -- which it was not. It was agreed that in a "time-bind" they would eat this chicken, but preferred standard oven baked. Given that the chicken took about ten minutes longer than it would have in the oven, the saving was a hot kitchen in the summer, and probably many BTUs.
Combo 1(Micro and Convection) works well -- but it is not fast! Nor are there timing guides. (More on this later)
We have not used Combo 2 (Microwave and Grill) for anything but hot dogs. Too slow by half! Steak is a treat for us, so we cook it with much ceremony outside -- but my experience with grilling hot dogs fo lunch caused me to turn on the broiler in our "real"stove to finish them.
Combo 4 (grill and convection) is rather a joke. Today, in anticipation of putting our review on paper, I took two defrosted quarter pound hamburgs and put them on the grill rack. Dialed in 20 minutes on Combo 4 and walked away. At 20 minutes, the hamburgs registered about 100 degrees F. internal -- as in not cooked. I added another 5 minutes and temped them and got to 120 degrees. Another 6 minutes got them to an edible internal temperature of 140. Thirty minutes to "grill?" two hamburgers?
The convection function alone works well for small quantities of food. But, it is important to note that this is not a convection oven -- in other words an oven that cooks more rapidly than a "standard" oven.
So, what is this neat little oven good for? As a micro it's great. In the same space as a micro you can heat dinner rolls on convection when your main oven is tied up, or bake appetizers while the roast is roasting in the main oven.
What's missing? A recipe book would have helped. The first time I cooked hamburgs using Combo 4 I figured they would cook faster than the time to heat my T-Fal Compact Multi-Grill (rather a waste for two burgers!) and I was dead wrong! (The reason for today's test.) If there had been a booklet or time sheet that indicated 30 minutes to cook two thawed burgers -- well T-Fal would have had the whole job rather than finishing it up!
For people who live in dorm rooms (I was once one of those!) who want all the functions of an oven and a micro in one box -- I would have been glad to have this Sanyo. But -- a recipe book that might indicate time to cook various things -- would really help.
Are we glad we bought this oven? Well, yes. But, and this is important, it is not a Micro/Convection Oven -- nor does it claim to be one.
This oven is a great microwave -- we are very happy with the micro functions. It is also a nice "auxilliary" oven for entertaining -- as long as you can work out the times. It probably saves energy over heating up our main gas oven for small things and will likely keep heat out of our kitchen in the summer.

(More customer reviews)I feel like I am back on the streets of Paris every time I plug in my beautiful Cuisinart Panini and Sandwich Press. This press makes the best grilled cheese sandwich you ever ate, I guarantee it. I love how you can stick a whole hoagie roll or chunk of french bread loaf with sandwich makings inside into it and squish it into a hot & yummy hunk of cheese-oozong goodness. Or, you can use regular bread and make toasty club sandwiches or grilled cheese.
This guy hangs out in the cupboard and is easy to pull out, just plug in and wait for the green light to come on. You can have a quick french dip dinner ready in 5 minutes that everyone will love- also perfect for grilled cheese and tomato soup night- or just want to make some garlic bread to go with your spaghetti without heating up the whole oven? I LOVE my panini press.
It is really easy to clean- although I haven't tried grilling meats or anything beyond sandwiches and bread. Gooey cheese comes off easily and the whole thing wipes down quickly with a damp washcloth.
Elvis would have died over the peanut butter and banana sandwiches we make in this baby! The frying pan's got nothin' on our Panini Press.

DeLonghi CGH800-U Retro Panini Grill Review

(More customer reviews)But not necessarily this one. I bought this grill from Amazon in March. I use it alot, and even considered giving it 5 stars, but I have a couple of issues with it.
Compared to the other panini grills I have seen (Villaware, Krups, Wolfgang Puck), the DeLonghi has fewer, more widely spaced ribs. This design makes it easy to clean with a cloth, and no cleaning "comb" is provided. However, a drawback to the wide spacing is it can allow your panini to squish down into the valleys where all the oily stuff goes. You would be surprised how much oily goo a peperoni and mozzerella panini can make, especially if you brush the outside with olive oil, butter, or mayo before grilling like I do.
A minor annoyance: when it is stored upright on its back, it teeter totters on the lid's power cord. IMO, a high end appliance shouldn't have such a glaring design flaw.
Even though I like the DeLonghi alot, if I were buying another one, I would try the Villaware.

(More customer reviews)The product does exactly what it is billed to do: it grills sandwiches quickly. The problem is that the grill is very small, so normal grocery store bread is way too big and it hangs out the side. In addition, if you want to make a bigger sandwich, i.e., stacked with several ingredients, the lid will not close and lock without Herculean strength and the risk of burning yourself. It does OK with two small pieces of bread and a small amount of cheese. But, for that, it's just as easy to heat up a nonstick frying pan. It would be, however, handy for students in dorms or others with no access to a stove.
