(More customer reviews)Just a quick note, this is an almost instant read thermometer. On average, it takes between 2-4 seconds for a final accurate reading. However, DO NOT TURN IT ON UNTIL YOU HAVE IT INSERTED. I read plenty of reviews stating it takes 30 seconds to record. If you turn it on, it will start at the temperature of the room and crawl up slowly (usually only a few degrees at time). This will be quite frustrating and useless.
Remember, insert it, then turn it on...and BINGO, you are in business.

Taylor Classic Roast/Yeast Thermometer Review

(More customer reviews)I have used this Taylor thermometer for years and it is reliable, accurate and easy to use. You can use it in the oven while the meat, casserole, etc. is baking. Other thermometers have a glass insertion rod and can break. The stainless steel Taylor goes in without having to make a hole first with another utensil. For Christmas I gave these thermometers to all my children and my parents who could not find them. My husband cannot grill without this thermometer.

(More customer reviews)There may be better instant read thermometers out there, but this has always done the trick for me, whether it's testing the water in baking bread or quickly finding out whether a roast is done. Its slender needle goes into hunks of meat quickly, and the whole thing is light enough that, if you are concerned that your burgers on the grill are properly cooked, you can easily put this in your pocket as you head to the back yard. Small note of caution for other dummies like me: the dial is under a plastic window, and so the whole thing should not go -in- the oven. For that, you want a meat thermoeter with a glass face.
