It pulls the meat right out of your hand when the meat goes past the center of the blade. you have to keep flipping over the meat to get it to cut cleanly off after slicing about 10-12 slices off of a bottom round roast. I had a portable krug slicer("old") that worked MUCH Better.

(More customer reviews)If you've ever owned or tried a "home" food slicer, you know they don't really work that well. This one does.
When I first got it, I tried slicing several items -- Pepperoni, bulk cheese (Cojack) and two different kinds of bread --regular "store" bread and a artisan loaf. The pepperoni came out in perfect, exactly the same thickness slices. The thickness knob did not slip, and the blade cut cleanly. My Cojack was perfect for grilled cheese sandwiches, and I got three even slices out of one slice of regular bread without tearing the bread! (That was a test to see what I could get away with). The artisan bread sliced perfectly for crostini. I sliced potatoes for potato chips, and they were all the same thickness,(actually, "thinness") and perfect for frying.
This aluminum and stainless steel German slicer is worth every penny you pay for it. The thickness adjustment knob stays where it's set, and the settings are repeatable, there's room under the blade for a large platter, the instant-on/off switch works perfectly, the motor is quiet and powerful, it's easy to clean and the slicer works exactly the way you always wanted a slicer to work--i.e., just like the one at the deli!
If you have the need, and room, for this rather large slicer, go for it! It's worth it.

Rival 1060-C Professional Electric Food Slicer Review

(More customer reviews)The Rival® Slicer (Model 1060C) is a generally well designed unit. I say generally because there appears, in my unqualified opinion, to be one major design and/or manufacturing flaw associated with the product.
The first unit I received had a broken speed control knob that prevented any speed adjustment. This unit was exchanged (thank you Amazon for making that process painlessly easy) for another. This second unit also had a broken speed control knob, the failure point being identical to the first. The stem on the speed control knob is either woefully under designed or it is being forced into the wrong position (it has a detent) during assembly. This is really too bad since the unit looks like it would do the job for which it is intended quite well.
What's good about this product:
- heavy-duty construction (parts I expected to be plastic are made from cast aluminum)
- heavy-duty, thick stainless steel blade - removable for cleaning
- angled slicing surface
- tray to catch the slices of what ever
- cuts up to 5/8" slices
- integrated cutting board
What's not so good about this product:
- There are rubber suction cups on the four bottom corners to protect the surface the unit is sitting on and hold it in place while it's being used. This would be a great feature except that the suction cups stick to the surface and pull out of the unit when it is lifted up.
- the speed control knob as stated above (and sole reason for number 1 rating).

(More customer reviews)I bought this slicer after very extensive comparison. I wanted a slicer with a stronger motor, but was undecided if I really needed the tilt feature. This slicer is very well made. It cuts meats very thin. I thought I would need to buy the optional blade for thin cuts, but the blade it comes with has worked perfectly for me. I have cut up ham and meat roasts. The taste is wonderful, not to mention the cost savings. I also have cut thick steaks (the ones at Costco) thinner to make steak sandwiches. The tilt feature is advertised to gravity feed vegetables. I use if for meat as well because the food falls away from the blade. It is much safer and I can cut a large amout before I need to remove the accumulating pile of cut food. I highly recommend this product. I was also very concerned that cleaning could be so time-consuming that it might cause me to not use the product as often. This is not the case, clean-up is a breeze and can be completed in less than 10 minutes.

I spent weeks going over reviews and comments about electric food slicers in preparation for replacing one that I had been using for about 25 years. It was heavy, clunky and would slide around the counter when used. I only took it out to use when nothing else would work. But it did slice. After reading all that I could in the reviews, I decided that the Model 632 seemed the best fit for my use. Cooking is a hobby and not a profession so I needed nothing more than a good quality, home slicer. I decided to keep the new slicer on the counter for a while so I could try it out. I think it has found a permanent home. I find that I am using it almost every day for bread, meat, cheese and vegetables. The operation is smooth and with the caliper dial, very repeatable. It is stable and does not "walk" on the counter when slicing. It appears to be well manufactured and durable. Several reviewers pointed to the on/off and lock switches locations as being a problem. I find just the opposite to be true. Their location is both logical and easy to use. Though I don't use it often, I found that the little extra that I paid for the tilt table was worth the cost. Overall, it has met and/or exceeded every expectation that I had prior to purchase.
Negative: If there is a downside, it would be that the component parts are not dishwasher safe. This is nothing more that a very minor annoyance, since the unit comes apart very easily and requires little or no effort to clean. (Just use caution when cleaning the blade.)
Overall: I may find problems in the future, but for the present it gets 5 stars plus. In my opinion, a good buy.

(More customer reviews)This product is not well designed for even light duty home use. The back plane is so flimsy that slices come out wedge shaped because the top flexes so much. There is a cavity below and in front of the blade that gets food particles in it and is very hard to clean. I used the slicer for Canadian bacon, baked ham and provolone cheese--then I went out and bought another brand product. Hope someone on Ebay will like the Deni "Classic"...Bud Caldwell

I would give one word of caution. The density of the food affects the thickness of the slice. In other words bread and meat cut on the same thickness will not have the same result.

KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers Review

(More customer reviews)Given all the concerns about e-coli and mad cow, we decided last year to start grinding our own beef and lamb. This grinder does the job perfectly. We grind right into the short round Ziplock boxes (about a hamburger's worth), which go into the basement freezer, and then we turn out the frozen "hockey pucks" onto a plate to defrost in the microwave, or right into the pot for bolognese sauce or sloppy joes. ("Honey, would you bring me up a couple of hockey pucks for dinner?)
Assembly is easy and cleanup is easy (put a slice of bread through after the meat to make it even easier, or grind up an onion if you're making meatloaf anyway). The knife and both plates store inside the screw cap, so I don't worry about losing them (though KitchenAid sells replacements, as does goodmans-dot-net). The grinder even comes with a handy wrench-thingy to help take it apart if it tightens up.
The knife and plates are not stainless (which wouldn't hold an edge), so you do have to dry them off right after washing, but I put everything, including the wooden stomper, right in the dishwasher, and after more than a year nothing has had a problem.
[...] - this isn't an industrial tool! You can't set the mixer speed above three or four when grinding (less if the meat is gristly), and you've got to cut up the meat small enough to fit in the feed tube (the instructions say one-inch cubes, but long strips work too). Treat this right and it will return the favor.
About the only thing that would make this more perfect is a cylindrical brush to clean out the horizontal and vertical shafts, since the dishwasher spray can't really completely reach both, and the horizontal shaft has a screw thread that tends to catch crud (Right now I'm using a folded sponge, and the abovementioned bread slice).

Chef's Choice 662 International Professional Electric Food Slicer with 8.6-Inch Diameter Blade Review

(More customer reviews)I first ordered ( November 2003) a model 645 Veri-tilt unit but was disapointed because the "travel" on the slicer was not adaquate to slice my much loved prosciutto.The blade was only 7 inches and was serrated. It also lacked a blade cover so I was sure it would "drag" when slicing. (At $20.00 a pound for good prosciutto I didn't even try!)
In December 2003, I bought the The larger model 662 with the 8.6 inch smooth blade was a far better choice! It had a covered blade that only exposes the cutting edge of the blade to the meat surface. This is also a much safer configuration then the "exposed" blades found on the less expensive models.
The unit is solidly built and appears to be of a very high quality. The travel on the slicing cariage is long enough to cut most meats. The "rump" side of the average prosciutto is still a bit larger than the travle distance of the slicer but this is easily overcome by trimming the sides of the meat to slightly narrow it.
I have been thrilled with how thin this slicer can can "shave" a piece of meat. I can actually read through some of the slices. I have used this slicer to cut Roast beef, salami,turkey,chicken, tomatoes,onions, prosciutto, and even limes! It has never failed to perform as I had hoped. This is truly a "deli" quality slicer even if it is a bit small. Don't get me wrong, it is still a rather large machine and needs a bit of counter and storage space to operate. I actually am happy that it will fit in my cabinet, because my wife wasen't thrilled with the idea of this thing being on the countertop all of the time!
Having this machine has saved me both time and money when entertaining friends. (We throw parties a few times a year and it has made quite an impression on our guests!)
I have not tried the included blade sharpener yet but the instruction are clear and quite simple. I'll post again once I have tried the sharpener.

Well it is now the Friday before Super Bowl 42 (4 years later, Feb. 2008) and I said I would let you know how the 662 blade sharpener has performed. Sorry to tell you that I can't do so because I have not had to sharpen the blade yet!! This machine still cuts like new! I have used this slicer on MANY occasions and am still pleased with its overall performance. I will use it again this weekend.
As others have noted clean-up takes a few minutes. The sliding carriage can be put in the dish washer if you like, but the rest is clean by hand!
As far as durability is concerned I have to replace the small plastic "slice-stopper" that keeps items from getting sucked into the blade. This is not dangerous but it can add to clean-up time.
I would still score this "home" slicer at 95/100. Enjoy.

Overall it is not bad, but starts sliding on the counter if you cut something dense such as hard cheese where you have to push harder. The machine is simply not heavy enough to give it necessary stability.
Also the motor starts smelling and "whining" if you cut dense items for several minutes.
Forget cutting vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, etc.) the food pusher just does not grab the item well enough and they slide off the platform, rotating on the blade. Kind of looks funny, but in reality it is annoying. It might work if you use your hand instead of the food pusher, but I'd rather not try it.
A plus is the aluminum casing and the design that is easy to clean. Otherwise, if you really want to use a slicer daily for all kind of items, you'd be better off to buy a refurbished commercial one.
I have to amend my comment - just one week after it's arrival it's already BROKEN, the blade grinds and makes loud noises whenever it turns. In addition the package did not contain a warranty card and Keystone Manufacturing Company requests this card to be submitted within a week.
SAVE YOURSELF SOME HEADACHE AND DON'T BUY IT!

Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer Review

(More customer reviews)I used to work in a deli and have used my fair share of commercial slicers. When I decided to buy one for home use, I knew that I didn't want one of the large, cumbersome slicers that I had used in the past, and that this would mean some tradeoffs in terms of power and quality. After taking a long look around, I finally decided on the CC-630, and I'm glad I did. I believe this unit offers an excellent compromise between commercial power and everyday practicality.
Please don't misunderstand... you don't want this slicer if you're looking to open a deli or restaurant. You can feel the slicer slow down as it cuts through denser foods (like meat and cheese) that the commercial slicers would just pass right through.
This little unit is best suited to the home user who wants to be able to cut enough cold cuts for a day's use - say packing lunches for the family. It's also great for slicing up roasts, BONELESS turkey/chicken, cheeses, and vegetables. Whatever you slice, slice only what you will consume immediately - or at least in the next day or so. That's the secret to those deli sandwiches... cut everything fresh for the best flavor.
Of surprise to me was how well this unit handles bread. It needs to be a fairly flexible bread (no cornbread/biscuits) as it has to bend slightly to accomodate the shape of the slicer. If you make your own bread, you can now slice it perfectly at nearly any thickness.
Just be sure to let anything that you make yourself cool completely before slicing. A warm roast or turkey breast just isn't rigid enough to hold itself together against the moving blade. If you're looking to use this for your thanksgiving dinner then you'd be better off investing in a good sharp carving set (not the serrated kind, but the kind you can resharpen). For thanksgiving leftovers, the slicer is ideal. Just don't do anything silly like trying to cut through bones as they can get caught in the moving blade... a serious safety hazard.
Why only 4 stars? Well, this unit would rate 5 in my opinion if not for two issues. First, a safety concern: the unit has seperate on/off and thickness controls. So what? Well, that means that you can turn the unit off and still leave the blade in an exposed cutting position (and at thinner settings, this is almost imperceptable visually). This can lead to serious injury should someone try to clean the unit thinking that the blade is safely shielded. Not a good idea if you have children around, or even if you don't. A simple solution is just to get in the habit of turning the thickness to zero immediately before or after turning the slicer off.
My other issue is that the manual says that no part of the slicer is dishwasher safe. This is extremely annoying as there are several removable non-electronic parts that are difficult to clean by hand. It seems absurd that the heavy duty plastic and stainless steel that these parts are made of would not hold up to a household dishwasher.
Overall, I find this to be an excellent slicer and highly recommend for home use. Much better than the cheaper underpowered models that are nearly impossible to clean properly.

The tray does not detatch from the base, which cannot be put in water because it containes the motor. Pieces of food work their way into the motor area. After removing the blade (using tools) you must remove a plastic cover with 3 screws and dig out the pieces of food. I could not believe how bad a design it was from a cleaning standpoint. The tray that slides back and forth with the food has a stainless top that is literally two-faced taped onto the plastic base. This was very poor from a quality standpoint, and came off in my hand the first and only time used. The plastic base for this tray has about fifty little half inch square honey-comb sort of areas that grease from meat or juices from food WILL get down into. This thing is a nightmare to adequately clean and not worth the trouble. It went back to the store immediately, and it was not all the way clean because after about thirty minutes I gave up. I'm looking for another brand now.

(More customer reviews)I have thoroughly enjoyed having this slicer. I make bread and other methods of slicing have not been completely satisfactory. I want thinner slices to reduce calories and make the loaves last longer. This slicer does the trick. You can't just run the slicer easily back and forth with bread, you have to manually return the bread to the starting position, but that's no big deal. Sometimes the bottom crust catches between the blade and the housing and you have to pull it out gently without breaking the bread - but that isn't a big problem either. This is just so much better than other things I have tried, and without spending hundreds of dollars (or more) on a professional slicer. Well worth the money, wouldn't want to be without it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this slicer about 5 years ago and it's the best slicer. It slices with ease and yes it does have to be cleaned. Cleaning this is a breeze with it's smooth stainless steel finish all you need to do is wipe it out never need to scrub and it only takes a few miutes. The gliding tray does not come off for very good reasons, so you don't take your arm off when using it. This is the way professional slicers are made. It is a great size for home use and it does a professional job every time. When I am done using it I clean it dry it and wrap in a plastic bag so its ready to go the next time I use it. This is the only one on the market worth buying.

Other thermometers have a glass insertion rod and can break. The stainless steel Taylor goes in without having to make a hole first with another utensil. For Christmas I gave these thermometers to all my children and my parents who could not find them. My husband cannot grill without this thermometer.
