(More customer reviews)Prior to buying this hand mixer, I always seemed to end up cooking in qalley type kitchens, without the counter space or storage for a stand mixer. Plus I seemed to burn up the motors on any hand mixer I ever bought. I thought I simply asked unfair performance from hand mixers. About the time I burned up the motor in my third hand mixer I saw an ad in a cooking magazine for the then new to the market KitchenAid hand mixer.
So I went out and checked it out. Here are the reasons I bought this hand mixer: a) it was made by KitchenAid; b) it looked like it was easy to clean; c) When compared to the more expensive model with additional speeds, I thought the five speeds would meet my needs; d) It had a "nice feel" to it - it was light weight yet seemed substantial, and well built and well designed.
I have used this mixer ever since, I think it's been about four years (maybe longer), and it has always lived up to my expectations. The five speed model when I bought mine did not come with a dough hook attachment, so I cannot speak to its ability to handle yeast dough; however, it has unfailingly whipped and mixed every concoction I've put it in without any signs of strain. It is easy to clean with its seamless design, as the editorial points out. I enjoy using this mixer, and highly recommend this mixer as a very well designed basic, efficient, and reliable hand mixer.

Hamilton Beach 64695N Power Deluxe 6-Speed Hand/St Review

(More customer reviews)I have had this set for over a year now and couldn't be more unhappy with it. The mixer does not reach the bottom of the glass bowl so regardless you still have to mix by hand to get all the flour and other ingredients off the bottom of the bowl. The mixer gets bogged down easily and between speeds of 3 and 4 it just stops. There's apparently a short between those speeds but if you giggle the switch it will work again.
The bowl is extremely heavy glass so once you've mixed your ingredients it's very difficult to man-handle the bowl to tilt it to get the ingredients poured in your pans. The beaters come out while mixing. I've pushed and pushed them in but once you lift the head the beaters often stay in the bowl. Not every time but enough that it's aggravating to have to dig your beaters out of wet cake mix.
I don't have a recommendation for something better. I'll keep using this one because I just can't afford another one. But I do recommend you pass on this one and find better luck with another brand.

(More customer reviews)I bought this mixer 6 months and 2 weeks ago. One of the beaters won't go in all the way - so I can only beat things with one beater. I tried to get it fixed under the warranty - because it is over 6 months - NO GOOD! But, I did buy it with my American Express credit card and they double the warranty!!! Long story short... American Express is giving me back my purchase price and you can be sure I won't buy this model. I am planning on purchasing a different model with Kitchen Aid because of their normally good quality products!! Hope I won't get burned again!

KitchenAid made it good. They sent me another reconditioned hand mixer and it works perfectly!!! I will buy KitchenAid products from now on!!! Also, I tried to change my 1 star rating to a 5 star rating - but the system wouldn't let me - just know I give this product AND this company a 5 star rating!!! Thanks KitchenAid!!

(More customer reviews)This is my 3rd Cuisinart hand mixer in the past 5 years and you're probably wondering why I went back to this model after the problems with the first two. First, I liked the form and fit. Second, I had extra blades that would fit (after the first one broke). Third, I assumed the problem was a glitch (each time). On the first and last mixers, the motor just quit without any reason or problem that I can determine - it didn't happen because of "bogging-down" in heavy batter. On my second one, the soft tab speed button tore and water leaked in - it quit working. Also, I don't think the wire blades "do" mashed potatoes as well as flat blades that actually cut through and break potatoes up into a smoother, less lumpy mix. Another problem that no one else has mentioned is that even though it has a slow start setting, it takes a couple of seconds to kick in! So, initially it starts at a medium speed and flour is all over the counter before it slows down and behaves as advertised. I've finally learned to hold it out of the bowl until it gears down.

(More customer reviews)I bought this mixer online, and i couldn't have been more disappointed. It looks good in the picture, but everything about it is just a little bit wrong. This mixer drives me crazy! I wish i had bought any mixer but this.
First of all, it looks like a nice metal mixer with a metal bowl. Well, the bowl is metal, but the rest of it is just painted silver! It's just made of cheap plastic.
Second of all, the dial on the right with all the speeds on it: from the look of it, the mixer has several speeds, one for each number. However when you try to turn the knob, what you find is that it has three speeds- low, medium, and high. The numbers are there for decoration!
Then we come to the two metal mixing blades. One of them has an annoying plastic piece on the end that is always getting food stuck in it. I've had plenty of mixers that are designed well so that they don't have to have this hard-to-clean part. It gets food stuck on both the inside and the outside of the little plastic part on the end.
The bowl has two problems. (Well, there is a large and a small bowl, but they have the same problems.) The top edge of the bowl curls around the top to make a little lip. This is fine, but the lip is not actually closed! It's ALMOST closed. That means when food gets in there, it's almost impossible to clean out. Also, i got metal bowls because i thought i could use them for other things too- such as handy popcorn bowls. But the bottom of the bowls lock on to the mixer with pokey metal bits, so holding those metal bowls in your lap can be uncomfortable and snag your clothes!
This mixer does not have a lot of power for mixing heavy dough, and you can't turn it to a speed and walk away (you have to hold the bowl or the mix will pack up in the mixer blades) but I wouldn't expect those things from a mixer this price. So that part is fine.
However, those other things are all just design decisions. There are plenty of other mixers in this price range that don't do all those terrible things. Buy any mixer but this, really! This one is just a waste of money.

(More customer reviews)The biggest issue for me is that the retractable cord is quite short - probably about a foot long - so I can't hold the mixer at a comfortable angle even when I'm working right in front of an outlet. What's more, the lowest setting is much faster than on any other mixer I've used. I've gotten into the habit of whisking by hand until a mixture is fairly thick before turning to the mixer. Even then it's still fast enough to make a bit of a mess, so I usually just finish by hand to save the trouble of having something else to wash up. Lastly, the eject button isn't actually a button, it's just an area of plastic with a logo on it that you're supposed to run your thumb down to release the beaters. It's creaky and feels flimsy, and it doesn't usually let got of the beaters until you try it a few times.
On the upside, the unit has a nice heft, the rubber grip is comfortable, and the switch feels solid. The negatives outweigh the positives for me, though, so I'm going to keep an eye out for something better.

(More customer reviews)I refused to pay $300.00 for a standmixer, and am glad to have found this one ! The glass bowls are very roomy and the height of the mixer allows ample room to work. The assortment of beaters should allow everyone to mix away ! The 350 watts of power helped blend a peanut butter cookie which can become thick. I found clean up quite easy with the glass bowls and the shape of the beaters, not alot of crevices for sticking.
The only negative is I was expecting a metal cast mixer. This one has alot of plastic/pvc to it. This makes me nervous as far as durability over years of use, as mentioned in the other reviews I was looking for one just like my Mom had. So far it has performed as I expected.

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased this mixer because I was questioning whether or not to purchase the much-celebrated Kitchen-Aid Artisan Mixer. My reasoning: "for far less money, I'll purchase this mixer and see how often I really use it, and if it warrants a larger purchase in a year or two."
I opened the box and promptly made a batch of cookies which turned out delicious! Two weeks later I made cupcakes and the batter was COMPLETELY smooth, no lumps and NO handmixing. I really enjoy that the bowl spins while mixing, the power is substantial, and it is not a large appliance and can be left out on the counter if desired.
I haven't used the dough hooks yet, but plan to make pizza with it soon, perhaps I'll add to this review at that time.
For now, I am completely satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to occasional bakers who don't want to shell out three times as much $$ for something they will only use a few times a year.
