Norpro Marble Pastry Roller Review

(More customer reviews)I had the all wood Norpro 3078 and I loved it because the handle was longer and fit my "Man Hands". The 3078 has cast aluminum on each side of the wooden grip to hold the rollers which make it longer and easier to grip. I have I admit I've kind of abused it. I left it soak which I know makes the wood swell and eventually the wood cracks and discolors. So after I ruined the one I had I thought I'd step up to the Marble Roller.
The Marble roller seemed better for many reasons I could neglect it and not worry about it being ruined, it is heavier so it would have more weight to roll the dough out, the marble would not stick to the dough and there are no pores that the dough could get into. I was correct about all of these assumptions but there are flaws other than the small handle that I didn't like. The first thing I noticed is the wire that holds the rolling pins to the handle were bent so the rolling pin was crooked, I bent that out. The next thing i noticed is that the bushings on the side of the marble rolling pins fall out all of the time, I guess I could have epoxied them on.
I gave this one up and just bought a new 3078 again. I just take better care of so it lasts longer than the previous one.
P.S. I've noticed Amazon shows two different versions of the wooden roller with the same item number. there is the longer one like I've mentioned and a short version that looks like this marble one.

(More customer reviews)I've had this grinder for MANY years (about 12 I think). I don't use it real often, as it is slow work. I use a NutriMill electric grinder for my everyday flour grinding. But when we want corn bread or cream of wheat or rice, this hand grinder does the best! This meal does a great job of making a true course corn meal and farina/ "cream of ..." cereals. (You'll never want cornbread with storebought cornmeal again, once you've tasted fresh ground.)
For those things that don't require a large amount of grain meal, and that you don't do everyday, this is a great mill. For daily grinding of flour for several loaves of bread - I wouldn't do it.
Another reason I like having this on hand is if we'd ever be out of electricity, and I couldn't use my NutriMill.

Oster 2534 Inspire Handheld Mixer with Bonus Attachments Review

(More customer reviews)The biggest issue for me is that the retractable cord is quite short - probably about a foot long - so I can't hold the mixer at a comfortable angle even when I'm working right in front of an outlet. What's more, the lowest setting is much faster than on any other mixer I've used. I've gotten into the habit of whisking by hand until a mixture is fairly thick before turning to the mixer. Even then it's still fast enough to make a bit of a mess, so I usually just finish by hand to save the trouble of having something else to wash up. Lastly, the eject button isn't actually a button, it's just an area of plastic with a logo on it that you're supposed to run your thumb down to release the beaters. It's creaky and feels flimsy, and it doesn't usually let got of the beaters until you try it a few times.
On the upside, the unit has a nice heft, the rubber grip is comfortable, and the switch feels solid. The negatives outweigh the positives for me, though, so I'm going to keep an eye out for something better.

(More customer reviews)I have been baking professionally for five years and although these sorts of lames may be useful for someone who wants to experiment with a loaf of bread a night for one week and then never bake again, one blade does not last half a shift in front of my oven before getting dull. A much better solution is to buy a package of double-sided razor-blades. We use Dorco brand which are 12 dollars for a hundred on amazon, although I'm pretty sure all brands are identical. They can be very easily fitted onto just about any rigid stick, such as a popsicle stick cut in half length-wise. Just thread the stick through the two larger holes in the middle of the razor blade so that it forms a convenient curve between them. Voila!

(More customer reviews)After mixing your dough and letting it rise the first time, this basket helps shape the dough into a perfect loaf, with an interesting pattern on the crust. My first loaf with this basket turned out perfectly. It is much easier than hand shaping a loaf, and much more rustic/natural than using a loaf pan. The natural coils shape and decorate the loaf the old-fashioned way. When it's done rising, carefully remove it from the basket and care fully put it on a pre-heated bread stone in the oven. The loaves look and taste great. this particular basket shape is great for making sandwich bread. I make almost all of my bread with one of these woven baskets. It is so convenient, and the bread lookks and tastes great.

(More customer reviews)I bought this dough scraper for use with making bread. However I now also use it to slice foods and to scoop the contents from the cutting board into a pan for cooking. I also use it to sweep crumbs off the counter or table. It is hard plastic and stainless steel so it will outlast me. It is cheap enough to buy even if you are not sure you would use it often.
This dough scraper was ground flat as it arrived, but if it weren't it would be easy to grind it flat and sharpen it if desired. I chose this model due to combination of low cost and simple design. If I lost it I would buy another one.

Krustbuster, Multi Use, Crust Remover and Sealer Review

(More customer reviews)I'm really not sure how this could be any easier to use. You literally just set the sandwich centered on the bottom half and fold. It doesn't take much pressure, and the excess bread crust literally just falls off. Sometimes when I open it after removing the crust, it will sort of 'stick' in the top, but it takes nearly no pressure at all and it falls right out with the edges perfectly sealed!
I've tried everything up to this point that I could find.
- Cookie cutters make cute shapes, but they're often too small and leave oozy edges
- Specially made sandwich cutters (in the shape of hearts, dolphins, dinosaurs, etc), again they're cute and they solve the size problem, but still ooze
- A gadget from a specialty kitchen-wares company that sells through homeshows, right idea but it never quite worked, round shape wasted too much and it never really sealed well
Enter the Krustbuster!
It's so simple to use that my children can do it. Lightweight enough for them to handle, yet still feels sturdy and has held up like new to our month or so of use thus far (including dishwashing everytime). Right size and shape for 'typical' sandwich breads, minimal waste. It also works better with softer breads than I would've thought (some of our previous cutter attempts with other products simply split soft bread, not the case with the Krustbuster). But, the best part is: it works as advertised and SEALS the edges!
It gets most of it's use from peanutbutter and honey, but we'll try egg sandwiches for breakfast (maybe even toasted), hotdogs, maybe even stuffed french toast!
