The lid raises smoothly with the feeling that it is weighted (since it's constructed of sturdy stainless steel) and the opaque section of the curved lid adds even more to its good looks. The handle is modern and sleek and is attached to the stainless lower section of the lid below the opaque section. It also has enough capacity to hold several items without crowding and its size is not at all unwieldy like most breadboxes. It has 4 very small rubber feet on the botton so it will not scratch surfaces and the weight is perfect I had been looking a very long time for a stylish breadbox and had failed until now. I couldn't have been happier at finding it. I have received several compliments and those people have shown interest in buying one also. I first saw this item when on vacation in Ireland and tried to obtain it on the WMF website when I returned home. I had difficulty navigating the website as it was in German so I entered "stainless steel breadbox" on Google and was directed to Amazon.com directly to the product I was searching for!

(More customer reviews)This was the slicer we were hoping someone would make. After using this, we've thrown away both the wooden box and the plastic slicer we've used.
The construction is durable, with the heft of solid maple giving a feel of quality as well as real beauty. Once we got a coat of mineral oil on it, the grain came alive and was even more beautiful. The stainless steel is sturdy and polished to a mirror finish with no sharp edges at all. They guide the knife nicely - and you don't end up with any plastic shavings in your bread that so often accompanied our previous products. The cut is straight, although a long knife is required as with any other slicer. Its function is rivaled only with its aesthetic quality. We always felt the plastic cutting guides looked so cheap and cheesy that we had to hide them in the cupboard. We leave this one counter with pride.
This slicer is the best thing since...well...home-baked bread.

(More customer reviews)I had difficulty finding a rectangular bread warmer which would fit in my bread basket. When I found this one, I thought $10 was expensive, but I needed one, so I ordered it. It is fine except it is smaller than I expected. I should have realized that 5x3 is the size of an index card, but I didn't pay close attention--my fault! Perhaps if it had said "3x5" I would have got the message. (^_^)

(More customer reviews)I make my own homemade wheat bread to save on quality bread expenses and rest assured I was eating something healthy. With that said, I needed to invest in decent enough bread knife to handle my daily usage.
This knife if very sturdy. I love that it is one solid piece of metal and not two pieces attached to each other. The metal is thick enough that I know it will last me a long time and can cut a really accurate and straight slice of bread.
Yeah, you can't keep a bread knife forever since you can't sharpen them back up. So, for the price, I don't mind getting a new one when the time comes.
Also, having worked in a bakery for a few years, I've held some really uncomfortable knives. Not so with this one...comfortable to hold and use.

(More customer reviews)After buying a bread machine, we now no longer buy our bread. Everyone (children and adults) cuts their own bread, at the table, to the slice thickness they prefer. With my old bread knives, the slices quite often came out looking like an ocean surface (waves and all). After upgrading to this Henckel (to match my other Henckel knives), we can now all cut straight slices. It doesn't matter if the bread just came out of the bread machine (yum) or if the bread was baked yesterday. No longer is the French bread (hard crusts) squashed while we try to slice it. This is definitely the "best thing since sliced bread"!

(More customer reviews)This is a serious knife for someone who likes bakery or home baked bread, and wants a good slicing tool. I would call this a commercial or restaurant grade cooks tool, for someone who appreciates function over looks. Not a fancy shmancy German brand or designer knife with Elk horn handle. Why waste your money? Very sharp and ready to cut out of the package. Please don't put it in the dishwasher if you want the maintain the cutting edge. Just wipe it down with a paper towel and put in back in the wooden rack or blade guard. This is true for any quality knife. The length is good for a full loaf of bread, and the raised handle is neat for keeping your knuckles off the cutting board.
Good knife and a great price. Makes a great gift for someone who appreciates good cooking tools.
