Only problem I ever had was difficulty in getting the beaters back in the mixer at times. I really like the deep glass bowl and will keep for use with next mixer.

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 13-Piece Knife Set Review

(More customer reviews)My wife and I have been using this 13-piece set of Forged Synergy knives for about 8 months, and we couldn't be happier with them. They are well made, well-balanced, have beautiful handles, a nice finish, and hold a very sharp edge--we've sliced tomatoes with all of them. If you're buying your first set of fine knives, these WILL hold up to the Henckels reputation for quality.
Now regarding what some others have said, I'll just add my two cents. There is a "Forged Synergy" and a "Fine Edge Synergy" series, and the main kitchen knives in those sets are NOT the same (though the steak knives appear to be so). The forged series has a metal tine that runs all the way through the handle with the black grips riveted on. The J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Synergy 13-Piece Block Set is totally different--see the Amazon photos and descriptions for yourself. Yes, this Forged Synergy set is also made in China (not Spain or Germany like some of the more expensive Henckels sets), but the quality is still excellent and should far surpass most users' expectations.
Regarding rust spots, we've had none. However, there are two main types of stainless steel: one is harder and slightly less stain resistant; the other is more stain resistant but slightly softer. That means that you give up a little stain resistance to have a knife that holds a sharper edge longer. I think that's much more important than having to clean an occasional rust spot off if it were to occur.
There are only two minor faults I find with this set (that didn't stop me from buying it, however). The kitchen shears are excellent quality and cut great, but the two parts should be easily separable for cleaning purposes. You'll see this in newer shear designs, and it's not a feature that would add to the cost. Also, the black finished knife block will eventually show wear and tear from missing when inserting knives into the slots. I'd have prefered a standard maple block. Lastly, for a few dollars more, I'd recommend the 16-piece version of this set which includes three more knives for about the price of one more (J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 16-Piece Knife Set).

(More customer reviews)I saw the picture of the 32 cup bowl and wanted to get it as I DO use the larger bowls for baking needs. BUT the picture shows the bowl with lid and measuring cups on it. The description ofcourse does not list anything about the measuring cups, but with them in the picture, I thought that they were a "perk" when buying this bowl. I have purchased products in the past where you did receive added bonuses with your purchase. This is NOT the case here. If you buy this bowl, DO NOT LOOK for the items shown in the picture other than the bowl and lid itself. Why the measuring cups are in the picture is beyond me. The product itself is wonderful and I LOVE it. I own both the 42 and 32 cup bowls and use them for baking projects of specialty breads and large receipes. They are durable and not short on stability when mixing. Good thick and sturdy bowls. You will NOT be disappointed when purchasing this item. Will last you for many decades. No kidding! The last bowl of this size that was purchased in my family was back in the 60's when my mother bought her large yellow bowl from Tupperware. That bowl was lost with all our moving around over the past ten years. I finally broke down and bought this cause I missed not having it to use when baking. Now I will have this to pass on to my girls. That is how long they last!!

J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Synergy 13-Piece Knife Block Set Review

And I did read the less than impressive reviews of the set and yet decided to go with it - 1) because of the price, (2) these received the relatively better reviews for a Henckels set (3) one-piece stamped steel construction. My husband was in the restaurant suply business for 7 years, and he is no fan of the Henckels International line but I succumbed to the draw of the little man (in the co. logo) without whom, I believe for the moment, no kitchen is complete. Since we received them, even my skeptical husband has gotten fond of them. They are not 'cheap looking', 'prone to rusting' (with proper knife handling, of course), 'thin blade'd, as some have opined here. We don't have a grand chef's kitchen operation running at our house and for us, these are great. With low to moderate use, regular hand cleaning and wiping down, they are still like new. They feel just right in terms of weight and look great. We have an extra pair of henckels kitchen shears that we were able to put in the block that had a compartment for it.

(More customer reviews)You may have seen sheets like these on cooking shows or at fancy stores under the Silpat name selling for huge sums of money and were discouraged. Well, let me end any confusion and tell you that these work the same way! They are like having permanent non-stick surfaces for baking, roasting, and even candy making. You may be a bit scared to put this plastic looking sheet into the oven at first, but don't worry, as your food would be charred before it would ever melt.
You may have been very frustrated by candy making in the past because the hot sugar would stick to anything that wasn't caked in non-stick spray. Fear no more, as this slippery wonder is a great working surface for kneading it while it's still hot or after it has cooled. If you want to keep it malleable for a longer period of time, set up a small heat lamp over the work surface.
What about cookies? I was shocked with how well they baked. Needless to say, nothing sticks (I was even able to just pick the sheet up and slide them onto a plate), but the surface also helped for even heating of the bottoms in our wonky oven that normally burns them. This was the most even browning I've ever seen, and required less effort than normal. It makes me much less nervous about putting baked goods into the oven. The downside is that cookies that rely on an ungreased cookie sheet to maintain proper form will spread on these sheets in a manner similar to a baking sheet sprayed with Pam. Fortunately, those cookies are typically laden with butter and do not stick anyway.
A bonus feature is that you can place this on a cookie sheet underneath a pie that might boil over in the oven. This can save hours of cleanup for those messy pastries.
Then comes the cleaning of the mat. All you do is rinse it with warm soapy water, as I've never seen anything actually stuck to it. It can tend to feel a bit slimy, but that's just the nature of the material. Storage is very convenient as well, as you can roll it up and even stick it in your silverware drawer!
I really have no reason not to recommend this product. It saves time, is cheaper than less effective sprays, and is convenient. I wouldn't cook without one... or two.

(More customer reviews)WOW! It's hard to believe the price on this incredible mixer-even considering it's reconditioned. Before making my purchase, I contacted KitchenAid's Support Center (a toll-free phone number for anyone to use)and wanted the bottom line of a "Factory-Reconditioned" Product. In my own personal experience, I've dealt with companies that had differing ideas on what they meant by "Reconditioned", "Refurbished", "Like New" and some others.
I wanted this review to be as useful as possible so I did as much research as I could, hopefully it will help you to make a more informed and comfortable decision. The wonderful and personable customer service representatives as KitchenAid were very helpful in answering a list of questions that I had prepared. I already had the mixer but wanted to make certain that the information I was passing on to you was as up to date as possible. They reassured me that when they put the "Factory-Reconditioned" stamp of approval on the KitchenAid RRK150WH Artisan 5-Quart Mixer they're basically saying that you're getting a brand new-ish machine that has met or exceeded every standard necessary to place the original product on the shelves in the first place. I followed up with another question, "So how can that be since it IS different for whatever reason?" They gracefully explained that every KitchenAid Appliance must meet several strict standards (appearance, safety, etc.), standards that are manually checked and rechecked by actual quality control people in the factory, before they will place it for sale as reconditioned. I asked what the number one reason was for these great machines, and they really ARE great and powerful mixers, to be returned to the store or factory. The main reason is that most returns are a result of people receiving the 5-Quart Mixer as a gift (Wedding Shower, Wedding, Anniversary, New Home, etc.)and deciding that they already have one or that they don't have the need for a new mixer. As a result, the product is returned, often never opened, to the retail store and then shipped back to the factory.
KitchenAid gets FIVE STARS, in my books, for never assuming anything. Even if the tape is still securing the box, the unit is removed completely and sent through the entire quality control process-each and every part of the Mixer is scrutinized. If, as another example, a customer returns a unit because one of the covers is missing, the same lengthy process is taken to ensure that NOTHING leaves the factory with the "Factory-Reconditioned" status unless they can stand by the product in the same way they do with the original.
With a unit priced this low, it's hard to imagine that anyone is making a great deal of money on the deal. This is one case where I would tend to believe that we, the curious consumers, are definitely getting the best part of the bargain.
I'm Italian and love to cook and love to bake. My family used to do almost everything by hand, but then I purchased the KitchenAid 5-Quart Mixer and my life changed. I will NEVER make another loaf of bread or knead pizza dough, not even for $10,000.00, after learning that this dependable machine does a much better job than myself and even my Grandma can do! The other part of baking that I am not excited to partake in is the cleaning process. Thankfully, the colorful and trendy-looking mixer is as easy to clean as is cleaning a bowl of popcorn! It's honestly that easy and a point that I wanted to pass onto you.
I sure hope that this review helps in some way. I've not covered all of the nitty gritty details, most all of them are found here on the site or can be located on KitchenAids extensive and resourceful site. What I wanted to do is personalize this purchase for you and focus on what they mean, as an individual company, in regard to a product that is not brand new-but is "Factory-Reconditioned!"
I've spent this same amount of money and much more on items I never ended up using. And even if you're the type of baker who only does baking on Holidays, you'll absolutely love your KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer. Choose your favorite color and mix and blend until your heart and tummy are content.

(More customer reviews)For the price, it's a pretty good bread machine. One thing I would add is this... If you are not using the brand of yeast recommended by Breadman, your results may not be good. Their recipes were tested using Red Star Yeast Active Dry Yeast. Not all yeasts will yield the same result. Know how the yeast you're using will perform.
I use an organic yeast, and when I used the amount recommended in the first white bread recipe, (1 Tbsp for a 2 lb loaf), the bread rose and fell. The taste was okay, but I knew when the loaf didn't dome, that the problem was too much yeast.
I used (1 3/4 tsp of organic yeast for a 1 1/2 lb loaf) for whole wheat bread, and it came out absolutely perfect. The bread was just as good as the whole wheat bread I used to purchase at the grocery store for $3.50 a loaf. Now that I know that I have to adjust the amount of yeast since I'm not using the one tested for their recipes, I am very happy with my machine. I would not use a bread machine for quick breads because I prefer to do them by hand. I will only use my machine for yeast breads.
I have experience using bread machines and I know how my yeast performs thru trial and error. A novice would not have known that there are differences in brands of Active Dry Yeast. Also, through experience, I know that the relative humidity will affect the outcome of your bread. Check your bread while it's kneading on a humid day to see if a little flour needs to be added, only adding a Tbsp at a time.
