When they got dull for bread, we would move them down the line to slice through tomatoes and other veggies with no problem. Still have one 12 years later (never sharpened once) and it is still the best knife in the drawer. They really have a 70's color inspiration to them if you can get past that. This knife ruined me on other knives, and now that I have found them again, I will not buy another knife.

(More customer reviews)After revewing knife sets and checking CR recommendations I decided to purchase this set. CR said that Chicago cutlery was the way to go if you do not want to spend a small fortune on knifes that were still of decent quality.
This is the first time I buy something that did not have a review and the first time I write a review because I was so upset with the quality. The knife are not sharp, and they rust - and the block is cumbersome and the inserts that hold the knifes come out - it was actually missing one when it arrived.
I hastened to open it and set it up before I noticed, otherwise, if I still had the box, I would have returned it.

The price was right so I bought two sets. I think I should have bought 3 sets. They are always sharp and my guests remark on the quality of the knives at meals. I even use them sometimes when I am doing prep work. These would be a great gift item too.

You wouldn't cut tile with a wood saw, so why would you attempt to cut meat with a butter knife? You'll enjoy your meal more if you don't have to struggle to eat it.

(More customer reviews)I purchased these knives after having purchased and returned mundial steak knives that had great blades, but the black plastic handles faded after only one hand washing. These knives have serrated blades and are fine for cutting steak on a plate, and I don't think I would want steak knives to be any sharper than what these are, because if so, they would damage my dinner plates. You aren't supposed to wash them in the dishwasher, but I have several times now and they came through as good as new. The rose wood box is nothing special, but it's okay. Overall, for the price, I'm quite happy with these knives.

(More customer reviews)Many people might scoff at a set of steak knives at this price, My only retort is to relate the story of sneaking around (because of my wife's non belief that there was a difference) and buying a set of the Wusthof Classic Steak Knives and using them for the first time. No matter what knife you have laying around and how sharp it is, the Wusthof is superior. It is the most obvious in steak knives because you use them everyday.
The edges are plain edged, honed by hand. These are NOT your STEAK HOUSE knives - no serrations. Your SLICING fine meat not disposing of a lost tourist in Texas!
Hand washing only, even with today's more sophisticated dishwashers with knife compartments preventing dinging and other damage to the blade, the high water heat and chemicals in the diswashing soap will ruin ANY knife. Think of the glass that you've had for years that you've run through the dish washer. Look closely and you'll see the glass is actually ETCHED from the detergent. And the old wood handled paring knives. Notice how they are duller and harder to sharpen? The dishwater temperature and chemicals from the detergent have damaged the steel. By the way, there is no SUPER steel that isn't known to all knife makers. Metallurgy is an exacting science, a formula to be followed, not magic with the Sorcerer and Mickey Mouse as his apprentice. Wusthof PROUDLY stamps the which metal their knives are made of right on the blade. It may be heard in a sales spiel from the college kid selling complete cutlery sets, that knives can be dishwasher cleaned. Nope.I don't put my saw blades, drill or router bits in the dishwasher either. They are precision edged tools just like your knives.
I'm very happy with this purchase everytime they come out for a meal. They feel comfortable, familiar like an extension of your hand, as all the Wusthof Classic cutlery do.
Good weight, balance and excellent hand honed edge. This knife is the one my wife reaches for first for her needs in the kitchen. Never argue with a woman with a knife in her hand. Especially a Wusthof!!

The only reason it did not receive 5 stars is I wish the handles were a little bit bigger. Even with my small hands, my pinky finger is right on the edge. The handle could also be a little thicker for more comfort. Overall, I love them and they are dishwasher safe. A word of advise: It's cheaper to buy 3 packs of 2 rather than the six pack.

(More customer reviews)These are truly very sharp, good working knives. I was so happy with the tomato knife that I bought a 2nd one, the steak knife set, and the carving knife. Love them all, except: Just be aware that (now that I've had them for several months) the handles are brushed aluminum which gives a good offsetting weight in the hand, however, the shiny silver color turns dingey gray. If you don't mind that-especially bec now they don't match the silver color of the blade, then they are a great buy. I would give 5 stars if they didn't discolor. NOTE: I NEVER ONCE PUT THEM IN THE DISHWASHER.

I work at Bed Bath and Beyond and we don't carry this knife at the moment but i have been doing my very best to make sure we do, a Calphalon rep. gave me one of these knifes to try out, and i haven't been able to put it down since... On a regular basis i refer people to Calphalon's Website to check this thing out, for anyone who is fed up with trying to sharpen your serrated bread knife look no further, as it has no serrated edge but still cuts through bread, and even if you were to allow it to get dull, due to the wavy pattern of the blade it still slices through tomato(even squishy tomatoes) with ease. I really can't say enough... best design of a knife i've seen, hands down... who knew a sandwich knife was the missing tool of my kitchen... also well weighted, and solid in the hand as with most other large Calphalon Contemporary knifes... To whoever takes the plunge and buys this unique knife, you will be happily surprised... and did i mention it also cuts through sandwiches really well( as to be expected i guess).... i'll say it one last time, because it really is that good, amazing Knife!!!
