(More customer reviews)I bought this years ago in San Francisco while shopping with my nephew who now lives in Japan. He thought I was a little nuts because I live in the DC area and that meant I'd have to fit this into my already bursting suitcase to bring it home. Because it was a price I couldn't resist, I took the plunge and figured that I'd fill the bin with clothes and wrap it inside other garments. It worked well and after all these years, I still love the Brabantia bread bin that sits in its regal position atop the refrigerator. Not wanting to waste a fraction of space, I have boxes of cereal and aluminum foil perching on top of the flat bin, all displayed for easy access. The rolling lid moves very smoothly and is easy to operate up and down, exposing the breads (and crackers) housed in the unit. I must admit that I sometimes forget to close the door if I have no fresh bread in the bin, but it looks nice even in opened position. It's a cinch to clean this and unlike us mortals, it doesn't seem to age. Should something happen to destroy this storage, I will likely replace it with the same.

I like the divider that comes with it, I put my loaf of bread on one side and English muffins, sandwich rounds, bagels etc. on the other side. It holds a surprisingly large quantity of goods and keeps them from drying out. Overall very happy with this and I like the flat top, I can stack cracker packages on top.

I have a Craftsman/Bungalow kind of theme for my decor (hard to describe, sorry!) and this bread basket fits right in with the black scroll metal. The long shape works for either a loaf of bread or for rolls. I bought a nice moss green kitchen towel and line the basket with it, looks quite nice. Well made and sturdy, so I'm a happy camper.
It's my first bread basket, and I'm glad I got this one rather than settling for a generic wicker-type basket.

The purpose of this review is to urge any shopper investing in a Wusthof bread knife to go for the full 10" length -- it makes a positive difference in leverage as you slice, and easily clears the diameter of virtually any boule, ciabatta, and other artisan loaves. The same principle applies to roasts and other meats, if you use your serrated knives for carving.
The length doesn't diminish anyone's ability to slice tomatoes, panini or any other foods, either. If you're going to spend $100+ on a quality bread knife, make your money go further with the 10" model.

The knife itself is fairly long and the serrations are big but this combination forces you to do a slicing motion that really is effective for breads with hard crusts like some european breads or stale bagels. You can also use this thing nicely to carve turkey slices, pot roasts, etc. I have the shun wasabi set and these knives are really worth it and relatively inexpensive.

Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Bread Knife Review

(More customer reviews)There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.
The Wusthof Classic line is the more conservative counterpart to the Grand Prix line. The only difference, however, is the handle style. I personally prefer the Grand Prix, but this is an issue of personal preference. The balance and grip of these knives are as close to perfect as I have found. For those wondering what benefits a higher priced knife provides, one benefit is that the blade (or tang) is one piece all the way through the handle. This makes the blade much stronger, and less likely to snap.
This particular model, the 8 inch bread knife, is a great knife. Many people think tomatoes are the hardest food items to clearly cut. I think bread is much more difficult; but this knife makes the task seem easy. My only quibble is the length. I find the 9 inch bread knife to be a better length for most loaves of bread.
I recommend the Wusthof 8" bread knife, but I would try out the 8 inch and the 9 inch to see which you prefer.

(More customer reviews)I've tried almost every major brand of bread machine they make (including the Zojirushi), and returned ALL of them - until I got this one! The T-Fal OW5005002 Emerilware Bread-and-Baguette Maker does everything it says, and does it well! I've made cakes (they resemble pound cakes), the baguettes (adorable AND tasty), and several loaves of delicious bread in it! It has two paddles, which does make a difference when kneading dough. The crust selector works better than any other bread machine I've had, and I was really impressed that the breads came out with one texture, the cake another, and the french baguette recipe a third! It makes decently textured pizza dough too (though the delay timer doesn't work on the dough cycle, so I have to make it at the right time to have it ready for dinner).
The unit itself is pretty large, but it functions quietly, and stays in one place on the counter. The pan is 8 5/8" by 4 3/4" by 6" tall, so it makes a loaf that is actual loaf pan-sized! It has way more wattage than the Zo (1650 vs. 700), and so far is proving to be a stunning value! Highly, highly recommended!
I've since found out that the 'cake' cycle is the quick bread cycle. Bakes a wonderful one from a box (that's the only kind I've tried so far). Also, I've tried fat-free loaves and it worked great with them too.
I'm a little disappointed that there's no 'bake only' cycle. That would help me a lot with sourdough loaves.

(More customer reviews)I had a stainless steel rolltop breadbox for years, and I hated it! It was impossible to keep clean, and if I was lucky, I could fit two small loaves of bread in it. Well, I finally had enough and searched for other options. I came across this item and although slightly sticker shocked at first, it was the best $50 I ever spent! The breadbox is huge, will easily fit two loaves of bread with plenty of room for hamburger or sandwich buns. With my husband gone for a few weeks I haven't been able to fully test the capacity, but I can tell you it's triple what I could fit in my old one! The construction is very durable as well. I can't say enough about this item!!!

It bakes evenly and does not cause any sticking (just warm the pan by pouring hot water over it or placing for a minute or so in the oven, then grease it well with butter). This is a 6-cap capacity pan, so it holds the same volume of batter as Nordic Ware Lemon Loaf or Nordic Ware Pumpkin Loaf Pan, but it is a couple of inches longer and produces nicer rounded slices. The recipe which comes with the pan is great and almost identical to the Banana bread recipe from The New Best Recipe: All-New Edition. The relief on the top also helps to slice the baked loaf evenly.
